Review Summary: just finished my last exam
Nailbomb is an industrial thrash project formed most recognizably by Max Cavalera of Sepultura. Members of Soulfly, Fudge Tunnel, and Conspiracy also joined in on this. In
Point Blank very little happens, and there is little variety. If raw and angry industrial death house soundtrack just so happens to be your thing, welcome to
Point Blank.
The main thing to take from this album is that these guys are pissed as hell. Relentless onslaughts of powerful riffs and slamming drums make up the meat of this album, and everything is put together so to be as heavy as possible. The vocals are angry, the instrumentals are heavy, what more could you want?
As far as coherency is concerned, there is none here for the most part. Just about the entire album up until “For ***’s Sake” is either sloppily thrown together, or really really simple composure. You may think that songs like “For ***’s Sake” and “World of ***” and “Religious Cancer” may be the faces of a band that care not about songwriting, and are just in it for the shock value, but you’d be wrong. This is an album that cannot be judged by the cover, even as seeeexy as that Vietnamese chick is. These songs mark the beginning of variety, coherency, and somewhat serious composure during the writing process, and are easily the best one’s available here. They have groove, as well as anger, and it is at this point that the album offers up everything it has. So if by now you’re discontent, go no further.
So in the end, Nailbomb is just another side project. There’s nothing truly special about this album, but it does make for a good listen on hot days where you’re so pissed you’re considering taking Vietnamese hostages and beating them severely. This is not a well put together album though; it is almost as sloppy as this review. So if well-organized industrial is your thing, and you hate the opposite, just don’t even bother with these dongseekas.
