Review Summary: I missed an hour of Monday Night Raw for this. I have no ragrets.

Night School came outta nowhere like a Randy Orton RKO and there where I once stood with poise and confidence I now lie defeated in a unconscious heap. Unable to withstand the emotional, musical RKO power of Night School's heavenly music the referee hits the mat and begins the count. 1.......2.....3. And just like that Night School is the heavyweight champion of my 2015 musical adventures. Their debut EP Heart Beat is the prettiest recording I've heard all year and I know it won't be bested so just stop the damn match already 2015. Enough's enough.

Heart Beat is only four tracks and twelve minutes long but what the band accomplishes in that brief span is incredible. Their music is a rhythmic style of indie rock influenced by shoegaze, dream pop and garage rock. Enchanting female vocals, stirring guitar melodies and noisy production values are the calling card for this band. The jagged yet delicate atmosphere has a strong early 90's feel that makes me feel like I should be sitting wistfully in the front yard playing with my brothers Biker Mice From Mars toys while I listen to this. The nature of the music is interesting because it's got a upbeat and driving tempo from start to finish but layered on top is this thin layer of spacious melancholy that provides a nice soothing/rocking dynamic. Although the EP features only four tracks every one of them is memorable. Songwriting is a big plus on this EP so I hope Night School can keep the momentum alive for their debut.

Heart Beat is a whimsical little appetizer of an EP that I'd recommend to people that enjoy charming, sentimental music. I should at best give this 3, maybe a 3.5 but you know what, I'm giving it a four because I'm sassy like that. Owen Heart. Gone but never forgotten.
