3.5 great | TheManMachine | January 24th 16 | The formal unveiling of a post-breakup Future who's moved past putting blonde in his dreads and hovering in pop factions, and has sunk/risen to an ultimate in iterant mumble-chants who's insistently at the top of everything yet seemingly empty inside. An incontestably filler-ish second half manages to magnify the mechanized soullessness found woven throughout the banger-packed front half: smashin' hoes who're trying to give his dick a hickey sounds like a far cry from an activity that actually gratifies him, fuckin' up commas a vapid duty rather than exultant celebration. He's full-a spiteful nasty-nast, but also piteous enough to quash it -- the surefire example being the two-part emotional-pinnacle "Throw Away", where after blaming ex-boo Ciara for caring too much about his hoe-fucking, the 'you go your way and I'll go mine' concept is translated into thinking about each other during various lecheries with newfound lovers. His specific request? "I want you to fuck him in paradise." Monster, indeed.

5.0 classic | blackbird223344 | September 26th 23 | Heaven hath no fury like Future scorned. Monster is the quintessential breakup album. On the project, Future storms through relationships, violence, drugs, and his own mind. After an incredibly public split with Ciara, he tears through the project with renewed focus, with track after track that are in the upper echelon of his catalog. The opener, Radical, is just incredible. Metro Boomins titanic synth work clashes SO well with Future's guttural vocals, creating a perfect dissonance and one of the most impressive songs on the tape. Future delivers banger after banger, with tracks like Fetti, Mad Luv, and the title track, Monster, being standouts. The synths across the board are impeccable as they constantly shift and mutate across each song, with the production being on a level not seen by many ever in their career, let alone time after time on the same album. The emotional core of the tape however, come with two tracks. Codeine Crazy and Throw Away make for two of the most incredible rap songs ever made. Throw Away especially comes off as the core of the project. Coming directly after two of the most arrogant, furious, and devious songs Future has EVER made, (Radical and Monster), the track begins like another of those songs, with misogyny, violence, and substances aplenty, but makes an abrupt shift to a far more desolate sound. The synths sounds like a robot begging for life as Future croons over this bleak landscape. He begs Ciara to sleep with other men, to simply get it over with. He bares his soul more than ever on this mixtape, making it especially special in Future's disography. Monster is Futures magnum opus, one of many projects that set him levels above your Gunnas of the world. Simply incredible.

3.6 great | Erwann S. STAFF | July 13th 21 | Future + early Metro Boomin = grimy shit, but Monster also - kinda - acts like the kickstarter for the trap craze; while the genre was already there and rockin' hard, it's with tapes like that the genre took the mainstream: dark and diversified beats, vulnerable lyrics with an enraged delivery - truly, Future is pissed, and acts as the record's main rage purveyor.

3.0 good | Bedex | July 15th 20 | Ok this is his best so far, but feels a bit overrated. One thing is that Future himself
hardly ever fails here; unlike in prior records where his delivery could ruin a track as
much as the instrumentals themselves, here it is nearly exclusively the latter. This one
has quite an identity with lots of synths and emotional tracks, so it works relatively well
as an album. There is a bit too much happening at once in the album intro, but the track
unfolds quite fatly (lel) although a bit slow to my taste. 2 has great delivery and the
flute part is dope, but there also are mario galaxy sounds breaking the deal. 3 is synthy
and kinda cool, not super aggressive, but after a lovely midtrack bridge the second half of
the song reveals itself as one of Future's best sections yet, sort of ambient trap. I dig.
4 is back to gangsta aesthetics and could be a jam if it weren't for some ludicrous backing
skrrt. Lil Wayne's feat is really good. 5-6 are a bit flat and a bit forgettable but not
bad I guess. 7 like 4 is fat but ruined by backing vocals. 8's a bit dumb and the weakest
track at that point. 9 is cool with a sort of bare piano instrumental that fits his
delivery surprisingly well. Future works quite well on intimate tracks like these. 10 is
kinda cool with its horrorsynth and delivery again, but idk if I'd call it a strong track.
11-12 are weak again, kinda simplistic and youtubey, before 13 closes nicely on a top tier
Future track, great especially when he drops the autotune albeit not perfect. Edit: welp
apparently I heard the 2019 version on spotify. 3.2
