Priapus:

Priapus are a 3 piece grindcore outfit that are as of now growing rapidly in popularity all across the grindcore scene. They have played with the well renowned Pig Destroyer and other bands similar to their sound such as Maruta. The Priapus side shows a band that is already showing great maturity and is blooming at such a young age of only two years and this is probably their most important release yet. This split doesn't show just the potential of the band, it has shown how far the band has already came in the two short years of their existence at the time of this release. They show a huge amount of intensity but in a very controlled manner. What makes Priapus so memorable in this split is the well thought out balance between catchiness (well for grind) and aggressiveness. For example in the song "A List of Unwitting A******s" they start of going balistic and then they slow it down to a somewhat catchy melody and wrap it up with that same intensity that was in the beginning of the track. They also know how to hook with the beginning of each track and they know exactly where it should head from there. All the members also know exactly what they are doing and play off each other really well. The Drummer is always on point with his blast beats and D-beats and has a unique taste without u going over board. The guitarist throws some of the most interesting and aggressive riffs out there. And finally the vocalist. He goes between two styles that he is amazing at. He has a great low growl and a better straight up yell (just as if you were to yell at someone when you were livid at them). Priapus is sure to have a fantastic future if they keep what their doing up and keep progressing their sound.

Old Painless:

While I don't know much about Old Painless, this side of the split is just as good as the other. While this side doesn't show how mature they are yet, it shows their large amount of potential. They make very spastic bursts of aggression that I have never heard before. They are probably the most spastic, spontaneous, and just generally angry bands out there based on their few lines of lyrics in each song. Their vocalist has this very again I'm using the word "spastic" and high pitched squeal. With the way he does it, it makes me think that his brains are about to squirt out of his ears as he is giving his bursts of hate. The rest of the band focuses a it more on just the sound in general to make their insane sound. They showed me a new side of grindcore that I have never seen before. There are also great thing waiting for the future with this band if they keep themselves progressing in a what seems like an already set direction.
