A step-up in the level of songwriting from his previous album "The Bearer of Bad News", each song represents a different perspective at a party. Andy Shauf plays every instrument expect the strings, showing his musical talent. The beautiful and different instrumentation of the album bring up many emotions; embarrassment, nostalgia, jealousy, and sadness through different characters. An album the should be listened to several times before completely judging.

The Party is a cute lil chamber pop record whose arrangements and flourishes of lil details allow to make up for the record's slow pace and lack of strong vocal presence.

I respect the songwriting and lyricism here but lyrics can only get you so far when your voice is so annoying and affected that you can't actually make out any of them. And the music behind them isn't exceptional either.
