3.0 good | Alabaster Jones | April 29th 16 | Acting as the drummer for Danish heavy-psych quartet Causa Sui, Jakob Skott is certainly an extremely skilled percussionist, and in the past few years has released a couple of psychedelia-influenced progressive electronic albums. All The Colours Of The Dust, the next in his discography, has a nice emphasis on the full and rich drumming, being backed up by sprinkles of neo-psychedelia, jazz, progressive electronic, and even a bit of world music. One would guess that this would lead to widely diverse and engaging album, but it's a unfortunate reality that the album falls short in this regard. It's actually a quite bit homogenous in the songwriting department, and though the sounds on display are generally pleasing, the songs don't exactly justify their runtimes. It's likely just a small misstep on Skott's part, given his thematically rich and very fun previous output including Taurus Rising, and though it's a lukewarm affair, All The Colours Of The Dust does have some nice moments throughout its length.
