1.5 very poor | SandwichBubble | March 25th 17 | A Second Opinion: Because @Storm In A Teacup Made An "Interesting" Album
Watch out Gorillaz, there's another iPad/iPod-only album on the market. With tags including electronic rock, ambient, and
dream pop, it's difficult to know what to expect with this album. Finding Footing is a strange blend of electronica,
vocal effects, and psych elements that are strange to even the seasoned listener. Tracks like "Perspectives" begins with
disjointed piano chords and twinkly backings before going into a effects-laden voice and what sounds like a Casio preset
instrument being pitch bent. The vocals, while strange, do vary from time to time. On "Possession," laid atop a standard
drum track is a put-on voice that I couldn't help but smile at.
"Traitor," one of the better tracks on the album, throws off the rock label and digs straight into electronic elements,
which I feel is the correct way to go for this particular artist. After sampling this collection, I took the liberty of
searching through more of the artist's catalog and lo-and-behold, there is a definite trend towards EDM and other such
electronic genres. My major complaint simply put is that there are just way too many effects and influences being utilized.
There's a balance to these sorts of things, which is why it's so rare for artists get it exactly right. It rides the line
of trying to create music and doodling on an iPod, both of which are fine on their own, but combined makes for a perplexing
listen.
Sorry for being a _______ and thank you for the rec.
