3.5 great | Alabaster Jones | February 1st 17 | On paper, it would seem like a collaboration between two artists like Ophidian and Tapage wouldn't be feasible. Ophidian's output is some of the most bludgeoning breakbeat hardcore and gabber around, as well as some of the most recognizable and original. Tapage specializes in a downtempo and very delicate form of breakbeat, opting for the melodic over the powerful. They're pretty much each other's foils. Yet, Phataa Diin God proves that they can coexist in a meaningful manner. I mean, just listen to "The Mine". It's one of the greatest breakbeat hardcore tracks ever made, and that's saying something. "The Machine" is also excellent, and while the two tracks only Ophidian wrote aren't quite as good, they're still pretty solid tracks in and of themselves. Overall, it's a surprisingly well done collaboration, using the vast differences the two artists have as compliments to each other.
