Review Summary: Connect each song of something in you, because each of them is truly unique in this genre.

Katre is a turkish atmospheric rock band originated from Istanbul, Turkey. Their debut album Encounters is a proof of concept on how to add another form of depth of the atmospheric sound of modern post-rock.

If I try to pour the post-rock into some words of what we know and love about: spacious, atmospheric and multi-layered. Having no vocalist that adds a human note in a song, musicians are artistically challenged to to let the music speak for itself. However bands like Russian Circles, Explosions In The Sky or If These Trees Could Talk show that overcoming such restriction is possible. These bands play airy, but very heavy music. Now if we put our attention to Katre on what it is, well it maybe is yet another rock band that goes on the post-rock train. But if we listen and look a little closer, we find out that firstly, this is a concept album that deals with the Existence and Existing. And Secondly, the typical post-rock vast open soundscapes are undermined by another layer I would call flowscapes (does that word even exist?). These are the sounds, which resemble to a friendly whale that is your guide in this massive open space of sound. The usage of a fretless guitar (also the fretless guitar celebrity Erkan Oğur has has a guest appearance) and an E-bow enable this depth that makes this album so unique.

I would like to analyze each song, but that would mean that I have to tear each song into pieces, chewing on them and digesting them into these lines I am currently writing. Therefore I would take this album as it is. Listen, love and let it just "be". However, since this is a review and I need to say a little bit more than what you already know, I would say this: Experience the flowness, painfulness, easiness, heaviness, harmlessness, relieveness, happiness and sadness of overall existence with this album. Connect each song of something in you, because each of them is truly unique in this genre.
