The Evens are an expressive two piece consisting of Ian MacKaye and Amy Farina, both Washington D.C. musicians. Ian plays baritone guitar and Amy plays the drums, and they both sing, though the sound is so full it's hard to tell they're a two piece. The guitar is clean and punk influenced with lapses into jazz and post hardcore. Ian's singing is controlled and even angelic at times and Amy's voice is astounding, and the lyrics are straightforward but beautiful; the vocals are nearly the highlight of the band. But the real star is the controlled, tight, expressive atmosphere. This is a must hear band.
