0.0 | bloc | January 4th 10 | JXL decides to go organic with this release, and to a regular listener of his work, it can go two ways. Similar to The Crystal Method, JXL has much commercial success so doing a complete 180 for this release may have been risky. In my opinion, it got the best of him and this particular album just left the listener bored and wondering when the bounce was going to kick in. Today ditches the abundant use of synths and uses clean guitars as an alternative. One track that demonstrates this is Such A Tease, which is my favourite track off the album. The album maintains a calmness and coolness, perfect for the chill club setting.

4.5 superb | RatchetSly | January 26th 12 | Easily the best of JXL's albums, he cuts way back on the synths and straightforward club music to make a mix of clean ringing guitars, hypnotic sounds and energetic drums. Mushroom's gradual build to its shining second half, Such a Tease's shimmering groove and the smooth acoustic and violin interlude of Honey are highlights.
