Imagine the sound of "Out of Our Heads" era Rolling Stones, The Kinks, and The Zombies pre-Odyssey Oracle. That's The Nude Party, for better or worse.rThe instrumentation is on point and if you're looking for a modern blues rock album to take you back to 1965, look no further.rWhile not a bad album, it just seems to be a retread of explored ground without much development. That was a common criticism for Alabama Shakes' debut album, Boys & Girls. Though both bans have talented musicians, lead singer Christopher Magee is no Brittany Howard.rThat retreading, however, is quite enjoyable. The intro track, Water On Mars, does a great job establishing the classic, nostalgic sound and the album isn't spastic about it, it follows that sound fairly consistently. The issue is, while this old sound may feel a bit relieving (because they do a GREAT job recapturing the 1960s), it treads on predictable. That's not entirely bad. The fifth track, Records, in particular sounds almost identical to mid 60s Mick Jagger in an oddly charming manner. The chorus, "I don't need your loving/I just need my records," encapsulates what The Nude Party's debut is - nothing special and something we hall have heard before, but it's nostalgic and makes a for a fun ride, even if other bands did it better 50 years ago.
