Ok this was new found glorys first full length cd. The sound quality isn’t as good as others (probably becuz they couldn’t afford a good studio. But nevertheless, it has a raw guitar sound and the vocals aren’t nasally like newer albums.
Hit Or Miss(3.5/5)-Good song but the original version sucks compared to the newer, cleaned up version on the self titled cd. Cool opening soundclip, from the movie the outsiders. Great riff, catchy chorus but rest of song could be a lot better.
It Never Snows In Florida(4/5)-Another solid song but it doesn’t have the “it” factor to make it a five. Vocals don’t really make a lot of sense but they work well with the song. Awesome lead guitar riff during the intro.
3rd And Long(3.5/5)-Awesome song the first few times but it gets old quick because of the repetitiveness. Good lyrics anyone can relate to. Awesome 3 second bass solo in the middle. One of Jordans best vocal performances on the cd.
You’ve Got A Friend In Pennsylvania(4/5)- Great song to play live. Full of energy and upbeat. Verses are awesome, but the halftime part(the bridge I guess) kills the energy. Even still, a very good song.
The Blue Stare(3/5)- Weird, metal-like riff during the verses. Very emotional lyrics. Choruses are sped up and Cyrus creates a sick groove and cymbal thrashing. Good bridge as well but sounds the same as some other stuff on the album.
2’s and 3’s(3.5/5)-Only song in the album with a different time sig than 4/4. This is ¾(or triplets). At first I hated this song but after hearing it played live its very good and I understand where its coming from. Not much energy present, but another good vocal performance.
Tell Tale Heart(2/5)-Not a great song. Full of energy but the whole song sounds the same and is not well written. Guitar sounds similar to other stuff on the album.
Winter of 95(3/5)-Another average song, nothing special about it. Cool lyrical idea but again not spectacular delivery. Kind of a filler track.
Passing Time(3.5/5)-Song with lyrics everyone can relate about wanting to go thru today quickly to get to tomorrow. Some cool drum grooves and cool guitar riff in the intro make it good.
Broken Sound(1.5/5)-I don’t know most people think this song is awesome but I cant get into it at all. The vocals during the acoustic part are horrible. And even when it speeds up its still not a good song.
Never Sometimes(2/5)-Below average song until the outro which is well written between the instruments. Lyrics are like a preview to Something I Call Personality which surfaced 4 years later.
Goodbye Song(4.5/5)-Awesome piano intro. The lyrics in this song are amazing. The symbolism(especially the part with the stars mentioned)is awesome. One of the more emo songs but still is great. This does not have anything wrong with it, I just don’t give a lot of 5’s.
Thoughts
Most people who get into nfg don’t know that this cd exists. And they probably wouldn’t like it becuz it sounds different from their other albums. It is an awesome debut album(from the screen to your stereo wasn’t really an album as its covers) and still are good to hear.
