Review Summary: More like Star Trek: Enterprise. Whatever made Voyager a unique stop for metal tourists is tamed in Colours in the Sun. Their glittery retro pop/classic rock aesthetic in this metal outfit is mitigated to make way for a more plain progressive metal album. Choruses don’t hit as hard as their previous effort, and generally songs are less catchy. Favouring a tight, melodic sound, it’s nonetheless a solid release with their signature TesseracT style, djent riffs, but overproduction diminishes their effort. Their guitars simply don’t have the same breathing room as Ghost Mile, thereby creating a drastically less heavy sounding album than is reality.
That all being said, Voyager remains a fairly engaging band. There’s enough enterprising riffing to be astounding among the riff raff, and the singer clearly hasn’t skipped vocal practice. Colours in the Sun is less of a unique piece, but it retains a large portion of the band’s glistening, melodic sheen, and funky bravado. Overall, it’s an easy album to get into, but one that may regrettably fade into the background, amongst the washing of dishes or whatever, and immediately be forgotten forever. For a better mix of their pop influences and punch-heavy metal, I’ll be sticking with Ghost Mile for now.

More like Voyage BORE
Jk, good band m/
| | | I like the artwork but have never listened to them. Hearing that it's probably their least catchy doesn't bode well for me either. Any suggestions on where to start? Nice little write up.

Ghost Mile is the best place to start, it’s accessible but still quite unique.

I'm not going to lie pizzamachine, I don't agree with your take on this one, nor your reasoning.
"Choruses don’t hit as hard as their previous effort, and generally songs are less catchy. Favouring a tight, melodic sound"
If the band focuses their effort on tight and melodic songwriting, how does this lead to a less catchy experience when catchiness is a direct product of melody?

The riffs here I would agree are not as interesting as in other Voyager albums but the vocal melodies and choruses are quite good.
| | | Nice review Pizza Planet. This album is diet Ghost Mile to me, it makes me want to switch over to that album instead. Though this is fine with its catchy tunes.

@ Watt: Perhaps I should have expanded the review a bit, but I found there to be less hooks than the last album, especially vocally. Melodies indeed contribute to catchiness, but drum beats, hooks, the overall songwriting, and passion, etc. can also add to it. I also didn’t find the choruses that catchy.
@ Monuments: diet Ghost Mile lol nice, I kinda felt that too
