5.0 classic | prnzokoshiro | July 1st 20 | while the conceptual storytelling coherency and twisted wit seems to have improved from the last one, some of it is apparently downhill compared to even 2017's DaLwtR... for one thing, the drums - they must like the letter B, cuz the drums are either Blastbeat or Basic... no real in-between; and for another, the production - well, ok, the production on DaLwtR was just as sterile maybe... not much improvement there, if not the opposite... songwriting and riffwriting are inconsistent, but quite nice when they get it 'right'...rso why the high score? inexplicable fanboyism abounds...

2.5 average | Gary STAFF | June 27th 20 | Disappointment of the year. 'Franckensteina Strataemontanus' is the most forgettable Carach Angren record, which wasn't really interesting at all. Each song suffers from being too flat and uninspired, filled with terrbily out of place synth sections and the final result doesn't really feel "heavy" at all. There are some nice riffs here and there, but the overall songwriting is all over the place and the album feels very incoherent despite the clear concept - and that's very frustrating. Additionaly, even though the production is clear and nice, and the vocals are still very-very good, that awfully overcompressed drum sound ruins the listening experience, because it feels very negligent and uninspired, and that disturbingly bad "clicking" bass drum simply makes me mad...

1.5 very poor | Wicka4392 | September 23rd 23 | I truly wish that Carach Angren could recapture the hunger they had for their first four albums. Franckensteina Strataemontanus, however, does not find them doing this. It is particularly noticeable that the high points here are mundane and mediocre, never once touching the better parts of their discography, and the lows are truly plumbing the depths of their already-stale formula from the previous album. Moments from Blood Queen and Funerary Dirge are repeated here in far worse form, and the only truly good song was The Necromancer. It isn't unlistenable, but if 1.5 is 'very poor' then that is what this record becomes by the end of its 50 minute runtime (far too long).
