Release Date: 2004 | Tracklist

Sarah Blasko is a female singer/song writer who is a breath of fresh air in a genre that seems to have become fairly cliched. This is Sarah's debut album but from the way she carries herself through out you would not know it as the album sounds very self-assured.

Normally I am not into this kind of music (Indie) but there is something about her voice that sounds cracked but at the same time sounds strangely etheral which I personally loved.

All Coming Back
This song begins quitely with a consistant electric guitar draped with strange ambience and of course the passionate vocals of Sarah Blasko herself. As the song goes on the music begins to escalate which leads to a quick drum beat then almost immediately the song returns to the way it began.

This track is a little dull (for lack of a better word) for my tastes as it feels a little too jagged but the vocals are fantastic.

3.5/5

Beautiful Secrets
This song is a little stronger keeping a steady drum beat along with a fairly constant guitar riff. The song begins fairly slowly but as then it begins to build though her vocals are always the focal point of the song.

This track is great as it feels a little more solid and is busier than the previous song and her singing flows much more.

4/5

Always Worth It
This song is fairly uptempo through out. The song consists of an acoustic number, a fairly basic drum beat and of course an apperance of orchestral strings which seems to make an apperance quite often in Sarah's Music. Like most of her music the song hits a climax and then begins to slow down again.

This song starts off cheesily but towards the end it begins to feel a little stronger.

3.5/5

At Your Best
Basically this track like most of Sarah's music consists of a guitar, a basic drum beat and quite regularlly an appearance of a number of string instruments. I find the chorus to feel a little more dramatic as the drum beat drops out at times and it highlights her voice really well. In the later the chorus is accompanied by a stronger beat which appears to be the climax of the song.

Personally this song is strangely catchy and I really like the way the drum beat cuts out for the chorus towards the start and the tune sounds great even when the song begins to speed up towards the end.

4.5/5

Don't U Eva
Though I do not really like the way the song was named the tune is feels a little more urgent and much more solid. Her voice of course is the main highlight in this song and it is accompanied by a drum beat and a guitar. The song slowly gets heavier as it goes on.

I find that I quite like how the song gets faster and it sounds a little different from the previous songs. It feels a little more desperate but in a good way.

4/5

Counting Sheep
This song seems to follow a very similar pattern to the other songs, the song begins VERY simple then as the song goes on it begins to get heavier until the climax though this song seems to end a little more abruptly than the rest as it does not return to the way it began.

The song is pretty good, in my opinion it is not the best but the song is fairly consistant and it keeps a fairly easy pace through out.

3.5/5

Perfect Now
This song feels a little more fragile than the rest of the songs. The drums and guitar compliment her voice rather nicely in this song and it feels almost a little more depressing than a lot of her music (that is not to say that the song is depressing).

As I said earlier it is a little more fragile and I do quite like the way the song sounds, espically in the chorus it sounds a little more heart felt in some ways.

4.5/5

Sweet November
This song starts quite differently, it begins with a kind of heavy (for Sarah Blasko) distorted guitar and then slows down back into a stable more calming style. Towards the end the song reintroduces the distorted guitar which is a suitable accompanyment to her voice.

I quite like the distorted guitar riff that runs through the song but the chorus sounds a little off and I can't put my finger on it. It feels almost jagged but that's because I am being anal retentive and if you were listening to it normally without analyzing through it it sounds fine.

3/5

Cinders
The song starts with an almost latin American salsa feel but much slower and much sadder. The song's chorus sounds fantastic in my opinion it's very melodic. Towards the end the song plays on without Sarah which highlights a string instrument. Then the song finalizes with Sarah singing the chorus.

I absolutely loved the chorus but I could not help but feel as if the running beat through out the song felt a little cheesy. Otherwise this song is great.

3.5/5

True Intentions
For some reason this song reminds me of a midi file backed by a drum beat. As the song begins Sarah's voice is nothing less the stellar like usual but her voice sounds much calmer than most of the other songs where it feels more passionate though this is not a downfall at all.

This song like the others is good. Though I find that I can't find myself enjoying it as much as I did the other songs.

3/5

Remorse
This song is almost cut up into two parts as between the first part of the song and the second part there is around about a 5 minute break. The beginning half of the song follows her more ambience styled background complimenting her voice quite nicely. The second half is Sarah with an acoustic guitar ending the song with one final exhale.

I absoultely love the start and end of the song. This would have to be my favourite track on the whole album it feels so calming and I feel like it is an appropriate end to a fantastic album.

5/5

All in all this album is great. As I suggested earlier I usually do not like this kind of music but I felt almost mezmerized by Sarah's voice. In my opinon as far as female singer/song writers go she would have to be one of the better ones out there.

This is my first review and if you guys find there to be any errors be sure to tell me. I found that I was a little more lenient on my scoring as I really have no other singer of this genre to compare it to as I stated numerous times I am not a fan of this style of music.

I have never heard this singer and I don't wont to hear of her or this type of music, but I will say that you have done a very good job on your first review but I think that you should put a Final Rating on the album.

One important thing is that you should review albums that you like, and not review bands or artists that you never have heard of before. And fill in the tracklist. This Message Edited On 10.13.05

Before anyone says that the title's gone, we're working on getting a glitch to do with this fixed up. Thanks. He had put in the tracklisting originally, but it won't save now for some reason. :-/ Cool first review anyway man.

Nice review, for a first. In the future you may want to consider improving on song descriptions, and making them much more detailed. I can't say that I have ever heard of her, but she seems slightly interesting. I may download a song sometime.

This is a great album. She does gigs everywhere around here for like $10, but they're all 18+

Aye thanks for the comments... personally I wanted to do a singer that no one has heard of because whats the point in reading another Nine Inch Nails or Muse review?

Anyone who has even a slight interest in them would have heard of them by now and there would be dozens of reviews out there anyway.

Thats why I chose someone that most people would have never heard of.

Also I thought, well it might be fun writing a review for something I don't ADORE that way the review sounds a little less biased and there is no fanboyism attached.

Thanks for the comments guys.

I saw Sarah at BDO yesterday and met her. I didn't say anything to her because I was too nervous.
I got a photo though. :D

 I'm so jealous, she is cute as!
I dont like this as much as What the Sea wants the Sea will Have but it is still a solid release especially considering she's reportedly has had no musical training
