This is some classy, well-written symphonic melodic death metal. First, the symphonic elements aren't used to just create bombast (although there are parts like that too), they definitely have a soundtrack feel to them. The riffs aren't anything to brag about, but they're chuggy enough and a great augmentation for the symphonic parts. Also, great death growls and good clean singing. As far as this genre of music is concerned, it's definitely near the top. Also, the production is crisp, clear, and powerful.

Piggybacking off of Willie's sound-off since this sadly never got much attention here: Xaon have a great balance of booming riffs + orchestration, and when one or the other needs to take center stage, they know when to crank up the volume for it. It's not going to blow anyone's mind, but the cohesion, consistency, and variety more than make up for it. If nothing else, you have to experience "And Yet I Smile"; those closing 2 minutes are worth the price of admission alone. Come expecting cheese (it's symphonic metal, y'all) and enjoy yourself.
