5.0 classic | TrippyDippy | March 6th 23 | The genre-bending Scousers' final release before their original hiatus is a short but surprisingly well-crafted set of tunes containing some of Tommy Scott's strongest and most consistent songwriting yet. Although it lacks the twisted, anything goes nature of 'Spiders' or 'Tin Planet''s overproduced polish, the starker, more au naturale approach they go for here works wonders on stuff like the apocalyptic nightmare 'Hell's Barbecue' and 'Pretty Suicide', allowing Space to fully explore a truly unsettling edge they've hinted at many times before but never quite fully achieved. Other tracks worthy of mention include the electropop throwback 'Zombies' (a track that blows almost everything the Killers have done out of the water by a long mile), the strangely confessional 'Punk Rock Funeral' (a bitter ode to indie groups accused of being sell outs once they hit the big time), and the gorgeous, John Barry-esque penultimate number 'Quiet Beach'.
