3.5 great | Antonius | July 24th 24 | "I'm alive, I walked through fire, I survived" cries Scott Stapp in the opening track of his latest release. He sounds rejuvenated and refreshed, with an appetite to become a protagonist like he once was in the post-grunge days, somewhere in the late 90's/early 00s. Higher Power is an emotional record which relies heavily on the introspective lyrics and the passionate vocal performance of Creed's frontman. This makes absolute sense because Stapp's lyrics and stories have always been at the forefront of his music. This time, the stories describe how how he has faced his demons and became stronger. It can even serve as a motivator for people who need help that its fine to seek for it in order to overcome adversities. Since the last time I have checked his solo work in Proof of Life, Stapp has kept the production at the same high levels, albeit more polished. It is obvious that he has worked much on the lyrics and the melodies, as he has written some catchy tracks with nice underlying melodies. There are cliches and also predictable lyrics here and there, but these will never leave Stapp's arsenal and they make him who he is. All in all, this is more than an average album and the collaborations (both with Dorothy and Y.Papadopoulos) play a major role for this. Recommendations: "What I Deserve", "Weight of The World", "You're Not Alone", "Dancing In the Rain"
