Metalcore is pretty much the whipping boy of Metal community (or maybe more so with Nu Metal). However if there are some gold nuggets in a crappy music sub-genre, God Forbid would be one of them. Made up of Blacks, Mexicans, and one white guy, these guys came out New Jersey and they are loud and angry, and show Metal has no color. Unlike A Bullet for My Valentine or Killswitch Engage there is lot less whining, and lot more badass metal. They are a true pure metal band, they do not shop at the Hot Topic or have trendy haircuts from hair gel. This is almost like saying Guns n Roses is Hair Metal, sure there some elements to be had but at the same time the sound and attitude is totally different. There is some influence of Melodic Death Metal, but mostly there plenty of Thrash metal involve, especially in those end of the war lyrics like "End of The World" obviously.
This is their live album of one entire concert, which can also be purchase on DVD with a complete feature length documentary. This has all their work from the beginning to their concept album Constitution of Treason.The concert is led by Bryon Davis, and he is a great leadman and death growlist. He sure knows how to keep the audience to have good time. His second in command is Dallas Coyle, one half of a pair mexican guitar shredding brothers, and provides awesome clean vocals. They keep the concert in to pure excitement. Their early songs is better here, since their skills has improve since their early days.
The albums starts out great with Force Fed, a great melodic track of Force Fed. Chains of Humanity is a metal classic, I love this song. Divide their own Density is their most melodic track, they also made a shorter, which is all right, it kept from being repetitive, good song.
Go Your own Way is a weird one. Anti Hero has some of the best solos of the album Its a probably the most core sounding song of the entire album. The intro sounds like crap but it gets better. This has a great breakdown, a simple but a great guitar solo. A fun headbanging song. Better Days has a good riff, and there is a really cool part speaking part only in this live version where Doc Coyles curses with great anger. The Lonely Dead is a better kickass song as well, with some of my favorite sing along lyrics. Broken Promise had the best live preformance, Bryon Davis can set up heavy moshing with suspense, fun to headbang. Reject the Sickness is their most experimental song, a bit odd but funny. To the Fallen Hero is a slower song, that I thought is a beautiful tribute to the people fighting in the wars now. End of the World has a cool intro, that sets up well, with an awesome chaotic ending. Gone Forever has my favorite screams, last minute is great, cool sing along lyrics. Better Days has a good riff, and there is a really cool part speaking part only in this live version where Doc Coyles curses with great anger. Crucify your Beliefs is great to the album, with a good bridge to a great last minute.
The attitude here is angry, heavy, the core influence may put some metalheads off. But this an album worth having
