Review Summary: Catchy music at its finest....
Sent By Ravens are one of the few bands that Tooth And Nail recently signed. They haven’t been around for quite that long, having only released two EP’s independently. T&N must have really liked it, therefore resulting in the signing. Now part of the T&N family, what have they brought for us?
Sent By Ravens, hmm, quite difficult to place them in a specific genre, call them Post-Hardcore, call them Hard Rock, either way, they are bunch of talented guys. Our Graceful Words fires off (no pun intended) with New Fire, probably the best track on the album. The guitars and vocals define the song, just like the rest of the album. Zach, the vocalist might be one of the few vocalists who sings with full emotion. Screams are added in the bridge, for good purpose obviously, as it seems to give the song a special touch.
An Honest Heart follows, reminding you a lot of the opener track. I Can Hear Her Breathe is one of the weaker tracks on the album, although, it has very touching lyrics. By now, you would come to realize that Zach is an exceptional vocalist. He conveys emotions of all sorts, something that is rare to find in the music industry. Beautiful List then comes along. What can I say? Probably one of the nicest songs I’ve heard, and first love song on the album, so to speak, and you can’t go wrong with lyrics like, “I was a burning mess, her heart was the road” The guitarists have pulled off some really catchy riffs, and the chorus will be stuck in your head for a hell lot of time.
Trailer Vs. Tornadoes, one of the tracks found on the EP, has been re-recorded. We can definitely hear some Post-Hardcore influence on this song. Jill Plays Tricks comes in next, and leaves us with a surprise. The intro will mislead many, since the song hits hard afterwards. Very interesting lyrics are found here, “I’ll keep running after you, but I always seem to stumble over what I've become”
Philadelphia is a decent track, so I’ll just skip it. Ah, Salt and the Light, this is where Zach shines, as his vocals soar with, “You come in love, because love is all we need” The song takes a break, leaving us with a lovely ballad. This Awakening however brings things back to normal, well, normal by Sent By Ravens standards. This is another one of my favorites
Stone and Soup continues suite, with hard hitting music, and surprisingly, quite some screaming. We come to an end with True Bride, which has one of the most honest lyrics. Definitely one of the best tracks they’ve written, and the song has one of the best hooks on the album, when Zach sings, “I’m gonna love you, like I should"
Sent By Ravens are surely talented, and for what the album lacks in variety, and creativity, it makes up with honest lyrics, and wonderful choruses.
