Review Summary: Players running out of gas

By this point in time the band was running out of gas. Still it is light years ahead of the disco album that would follow (Everybody Up). In any event the Players still came up with a few good songs but those were pretty much mimicking other more successful artists at the time. "Funk-O-Nots" is a great Parliament/Funkadelic knock-off. Very funky and spacy which seemed to be a requirement for many other funk songs at the time (War's "Galaxy", Brothers Johnsons "Ride-O-Rocket", etc.). "Time Slips Away" sounds a lot, and mean a lot like EWF but it too is a great song and really should have been big as a single but wasn't.

Elsewhere the Players revisit their own past with "Sleepwalkin" which will remind you of the 50's vibe of "It's All Over" from Fire. Also Shoot Yer Shot which actually mixes in with Time Slips Away is another spacey song, this time an instrumental save for borrowing a one line lyric from Fire (When your hot, your hot, you really Shoot Yer Shot). "Dance (If Ya Wanta)" and "Nott Enuff" are decent songs but nothing even close to the songs from their heyday. The only other cut is the very long and repetitive title cut "Jass-Ay-Lady". It rambles on for over 8 minutes but the funk is kind of watered down and by the end you are just waiting for it to end.

Certainly not the worst Players album as the next 5 albums with various line-ups were far worse but it was clear this was the band in full decline mode.
