This is truly and incredible effort from an underground Irish heavy metal band. With a promising sound and great song composing, I would have expected Dreamsfear to become a very popular band - not only in Ireland, but worldwide.
'Prelude to Destiny' starts out with the opening track entitled "Ruins", which is over 7 minutes of thrash, power, and clean riffs. The very first second of the song is pure thrash metal with more of an old-school feel to it. It slows down a bit during the song, but builds itself back up, very reminiscent of the GOOD Metallica (Pre-Black Album).
Track 2, entitled "Bleak Horizons", fades in with clean guitar and drums, followed by a melody-like verse with vocals. The song overall isn't a thrash-y song by any means, but it complements the album quite well.
The next song, "As Darkness Falls", is the definitely the highlight of the entire EP. Some people might recognize it from being on Stickdeath.com under the "Stick Wrestling" part. The intro is a clean riff with a harmonizing bass line, which leads into a heavy melody about 45 seconds into the song. The entire song is outstanding and very well thought out.
The final song is more of a ballad-type song exceeding 8 minutes called "Burning Bridges". Although that may sound bad, it is quite the opposite. The song's intro/verse is all clean guitar with the vocals over it. After the first part of the verse, there's another one of their "Signature Melodies", followed by another verse.
It's quite unfortunate that Dreamsfear broke up, most likely due to an unsteady lineup. The band had so much potential, but the members went to other bands around Ireland.
