Review Summary: happy music
This is one of the best feel good albums ever made. Often overshadowed by Meat Puppets II, Up on the Sun is an amazing album and just as good as its predecessor. From the first few seconds of the title track you know this album is special. The biggest reason this album rules is the musicianship. The guitar and bass interplay is some of the best i have ever heard ever. Curt is truly an amazing guitar player, he uses unconventional chords and sweet effects, just adding to the perfection. Bass wise its up their with Geddy, Cris rarely sticks to one note, hes all over the fretboard but not in a wanky way, more in a i dont give a *** way. The drums keep the groove going hard and while they dont get too fancy they do the ***ing job. Its mainly the production that makes them shine, the cymbals, especially ride cymbal are so clear and separate from the other instruments, its like you can almost taste it. The production is so amazingly perfect, every instrument is crystal clear and the bass tone is phenomenal. The songs themselves are very well written, the lyrics are crazy and cool but who cares about the lyrics when the musicianship is this good. Just listen to the intro to Maidens Milk and its almost Rush level. Vocally Curt has a cool voice, while you might say he cant sing that good, his voice fits the music brilliantly and in key vocals are overrated anyway. The album just makes me really happy as ***, like i almost just have to start dancing. Can you imagine driving down a country lane with the roof down smoking gonks listening to maidens milk? I have dreamt about this many times. The songs sort of follow the same formula which is, happy music for great ass times. but the song Two Rivers really stands out as being much darker. Its dark yet beautiful and still catchy, damn these ***ers are good.
I recommend this to everyone. It doesnt matter if you are a metal head, pop queef or even a post hardcore bitch, just get it. So the real question is, have you even heard this? I only listen to metal and this album rules. I may even 5 it when i get a car and carry out my dream.
