Review Summary: For lack of a better summary, this is a terrible debut album.
Rebstar is a name few people know, and one I recently just learned. Rebin Shah (AKA Rebstar), is a swedish hip-hop artist and self-proclaimed "entrepreneur". He serves as CEO on the record label Today Is Vintage, and has released two mixtapes and one full-length album to date.
Which inevitably brings us to
'Bad Karma', Rebstar's first full-length album. A 12-track mess,
'Bad Karma' is a fitting name for such a poor release. It has all the features of a lackluster hip-hop album: hilariously bad lyrics, overproduced beats, and terrible hooks. At times you can't tell if he's trying to be Kanye West, Wiz Khalifa, or Lupe Fiasco. But no matter who he sounds like, one cannot escape the fact this is a terrible start for an artist trying to make it in the already overly-saturated genre of hip-hop and rap.
With tracks such as "Married To My Money" and "What Name", you really have to wonder if this album is even a serious attempt at music. Featuring awful techno beats and a flow that doesn't match the song at all, Rebstar has a lot of work to do before he can even think about being considered a serious up-and-comer in the music industry. There are some different ideas at play, but they are poorly executed. Rebstar needs to hit the drawing board and come back with a more solid effort.
