Coheed and Cambria were formed in 2000 out of the remains of the band Shabutie. Singer/guitarist Claudio Sanchez recruited Mic Todd (bass), Travis Stever (guitar) and Joshua Eppard (drums) to form Coheed and Cambria.
Two years later their debut, "The Second Stage Turbine Blade," was released on Equal Vision, which gathered a lot of fans quite fast. Formed around the story of the couple Coheed and Cambria, this album was the first chapter (actually the second, a prequel is to come in the future) of the ongoing tale told in the concept albums the band releases. After excessive touring and a near breakup, the follow up album was recorded in 2003, entitled "In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3". The album displayed pop punk-like songs, next to Rush tinged progressive rock songs. With singles like "A Favor House Atlantic" and "Blood Red Summer," the band received quite some airplay on MTV and radio. The most recent part of the story is the "Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV Vol. 1: From Fear Through The Eyes Of Madness",
which is the first part of the 4th chapter of the story around Coheed and Cambria.
After Vol. 1 was released, several incidents within the band brought forth disagreements and hard feelings. The band released a live concert, entitled "The Last Supper: Live at the Hammerstein Ballroom," shortly before bassist Mic Todd and drummer Josh Eppard left the band. The DVD was to serve almost as a farewell to the two members, a sort of "Goodbye, this is what you are leaving, this is how we wish to be remembered" statement. Months later, however, Todd rejoined the band (having been temporarily replaced for live shows by Matt Williams. Eppard was replaced by Chris Pennie, of The Dillenger Esacpe Plan.
Since then, the band has released the second part of their final album, entitled "Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV, Vol. 2: No World For Tomorrow." Returning to the story of the Amory Wars, this album closes the story of The Crowing and his battle amongst the Keywork. Filling in for drums on this album is Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins.
Most recently, the band has released a DVD entitled "Neverender," a live recap of a 4 night show in which they played their entire discography. They have also stated that a 5th album is now on the way, serving as a prequel to the story. « hide |
