Westside Connection was a West Coast gangsta rap supergroup consisting of Ice Cube, WC, and Mack 10. Their first album, Bow Down, reached #2

Dr. Dre was leaving to form his own label Aftermath. Because of this, while Bow Down was enjoying chart success, its corresponding label Priority
climbed up the gangsta rap hierarchy.
After a seven-year hiatus, the group reconstituted itself and released their second album Terrorist Threats in 2003, which sold respectably, fueled by
the smash single “Gangsta Nation” with Nate Dogg. In 2005 Mack 10 left the group due to a conflict between him and Ice Cube. That eventually
caused Westside Connection to call it quits for good. Although the rap supergroup came up and diminished relatively quickly, its impact is still felt
today. Although Westside Connection did not pioneer any new styles, they showcased gangsta rap at its peak, with 3 of the best artists from the West.
Bow Down is largely considered, by fans and critics alike, just short of a “classic” album today. Hip hop fans still speculate over the amount of potential
the group had left in them, had they not disbanded so abruptly. Ice Cube and WC still remain in good relationships today. WC also contributed to Ice
Cube's 2006 album Laugh Now, Cry Later. « hide |
