Colour The Sky formed in early 2009 with the goal of bringing something new to the already diverse Perth music scene. The band released a four-track demo Retreat or Face Defeat, which proved to be very popular with Perth Punters, this saw the band debut with a sold out show at YMCA HQ. With more shows and word of mouth spreading the demo did the rounds on the internet and Colour the Sky were able to go on a self managed national headlining tour alongside Sydney-siders Mayhem Addition. The tour would give the band invaluable stage experience as well gaining the band new fans nation wide, opening their eyes to the greater Australian music scene. The latter half of 2009 saw the addition of Keira-Jane Ephraims, who would share vocal duties with guitarist/vocalist Kane Baker. This move propelled the band to the front of the Perth music scene bringing forth a new dynamic sound and direction that had until this point not been seen in Perth. Colour The Sky showcased this new sound at Amplifier bar supporting American Pop Punk heavy weights Mest on their reunion tour. In December 2009 the band took time off from shows to record their debut EP Distance Doesn’t Matter, Produced by Chad Blondel (known for his work with Elora Danan). The EP was then sent to America to be mixed by Brooks Paschal (former vocalist of Sullivan) and mastered at Sterling Sounds New York by UE Natashi (Mastered Panic at the Disco’s debut A Fever Your Can’t Sweat Out). So far 2010 has proven to be a huge year for Colour The Sky with the Release of Distance Doesn’t Matter. The band launched the EP to a 500+ strong sold out Amplifier Bar on January 15th garnering rave reviews from fans and critics alike. The all ages launch saw a near capacity YMCA HQ celebrate the release of the bands EP in sweltering 42-degree heat. The turnouts for the launch shows showcases the loyalty and commitment of the fan base the band has managed to obtain in just a short 12 months. The band plans to continue this momentum and hit the ground running in support of their debut effort throughout 2010. « hide
