Ephel Duath

Hailing from Italy, Ephel Duath formed as a duo in 1998 in an attempt to change a genre that is widely considered unchangable: Black Metal. Hailing from Italy, Ephel Duath formed as a duo in 1998 in an attempt to change a genre that is widely considered unchangable: Black Metal. These days, however, Ephel Duath have taken a more jazzy approach, including trumpets and other instruments into their music. Their drummer has no previous extreme metal experience and neither does their bassist.Much of their earlier work has a strong electronic feel to it, but of their newer material, it has grown to an organic and more symbollic form. Ephel Duath's first practical debut album, Painters Pallet, had the specific goal to create colors out of sounds; each individual song represented a color. On their latest attempt, however, they throw the 'idea' of a song out the window, instead turning the whole album into a landscape and world of moving sounds, breaking down the structure of a song so much its hardly there anymore... but all to good effect and with good intentions. They did want to change the face of a genre, after all. « hide
