Lamya (pronounced Lamb-ya) was a Kenyan-born British singer-songwriter who rose to fame as one of Soul II Soul's lead singers and a backing
vocalist for Duran Duran. Her solo debut record "Learning from Falling" was released in the summer of 2002 with the poetic "Empires (Bring Me Men)"
serving as the first single. Hopes for a sophomore effort were dashed when the singer passed away due to a sudden heart attack on January 8, 2009.
She was 35 years old.
