Saint Etienne, named after the French football team, are an English dance/rock/techno band, Their style involves a fusion between 1990sdance-
pop/house and 1960s British pop.
The band was formed in 1988 by Bob Stanley and Pete Wiggs, former music journalists who serve as keyboardists and producers. They werejoined by
guitarist/keyboardist Ian Catt, and vocalist Sarah Cracknell, thus forming the final line-up.
Their first three albums, Foxbase Alpha, So Tough and Tiger Bay focused on their "sixties pop meets nineties dance" aesthetic, earningcritical acclaim
and commercial success. Starting with Good Humor, they moved towards a more acoustic and trip-hop influenced soundsimilar to Air.
