The Proclaimers

Often compared to the Everly Brothers, The Proclaimers are fronted by the twin brothers Craig and Charlie Reid. They played in several bands before forming The Proclaimers in 1983 with Craig playing the tambourine and Charlie playing the guitar (both sang). Opening for The Housemartins in 1986, 1987 proved to be their big break, which is when and they scored a hit with their single "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)", which was a hit in Australia and New Zealand, and was later a hit in 1993 in the US after it appeared on the popular film Benny & Joon. Although they never scored another hit like "I'm Gonna Be", they remain active and still releasing material, which usually still maintain decent sales in the UK.
