Siren Music Festival 2009

by Ryan Flatley July 23rd 2009 | 15 Comments

Last year, Broken Social Scene absolutely slayed Coney Island’s Astroland during the eighth edition of the Siren Music Festival.  The annual, no cash required, festival generally garners one or two marquee names along with many up-and-comers (to put 'up-and-comers' in perspective, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV On The Radio, and The Shins have previously played 3:00PM and 4:00PM sets).  In years past M.I.A., Death Cab For Cutie, Cursive, and Modest Mouse have shared one of the two stages present at Sire Music Festival.  This year, Siren featured Spank Rock and Built To Spill as the chosen headliners while Japandroids and Frightened Rabbit were two of the twelve supporting acts in what is continually proving to be a worthy, local festival.  Due to unforeseen circumstances, I was unable to attend this year, but thankfully for our colaboration last year with Edwina Hay, we were able to catch most of the days action with the exception of Monotonix and A Place To Bury Strangers.  So here you have it, a summative glance at Siren Music Festival 2009, filled with Steve Urkel glasses and enough flannel shirts to supply the world's lumberjacks.
