POD XT as load box?

For those of you who have POD's, is there a way to turn off the amp models and just use the speaker simulator? If so, would the pod's speaker simulator be safe enough to use as a load box with a tube...

Can you not export the session as an mp3 file instead of an uncompressed file? That's my first thought but I'm not familiar with cool edit pro tbh.
