Review Summary: The infectious energy and excellent riffing makes this an album that’s not hard to enjoy.
Royal Republic is a relatively new rock band from Sweden. Like fellow countrymen The Hives, they play energetic, rough, and fun rock and roll. When it comes to fun, catchy rock music,
We Are The Royal hardly skips a beat. It may not feature anything groundbreaking or revolutionary but it is sure to get your head nodding only a few seconds in.
Royal Republic comes out guns blazing on the first track, "The Royal". It’s fast and furious and sets the mood perfectly for the rest of the album. When second track "The President’s Daughter" comes around, we get a glimpse into Royal Republic’s riffing prowess. Complete with a great main riff and a catchy chorus, this song is an album highlight. But the fun doesn’t stop there. Royal Republic does a great job keeping the energy of the album going with more short (not one song over 3:00), fast, and fun songs, not even stopping for rest once. “Tommy-Gun” is constructed around a terrific bass and has another great sing-along chorus making it another album highlight. “Underwear” is another ridiculously catchy tune that shows Royal Republic’s sense of humor too. The easy-to-remember, lighthearted lyrics and relentless energy of this track make it one of their best, and for good reason.
Frontman Adam Grahn brings a raw energy to each and every song that will hold your attention throughout the 14 tracks, but the instrumentation that Royal Republic showcases is the true highlight of the album.
We Are The Royal is stuffed with aggressive and catchy hard rock riffs that you will remember. They keep the tempo going strong and fast and never stop to slow down once in 14 songs. For all fans of rock music in general, this is a must listen. While it may be whimsical and blithe,
We Are The Royal is an incredibly fun listen and good for more than a few spins in the CD player.
