09.13.12 | No Elm Street? |
Spec
09.13.12 | You guys and [rec] |
Insurrection
09.13.12 | predator |
Hyperion1001
09.13.12 | where the hell is hellraiser?
also no italian horror
also evil dead 2 is better than 1 |
DarkSideOfLucca
09.13.12 | I love Elm Street, that would probably be my number 16 or something. Hills Have Eyes is super underrated as well. Suspiria and Deep Red also didn't make this list which makes me :(
And I don't really consider Predator a horror film, it's more of an unsettling action scifi
And [rec] pwns |
DarkSideOfLucca
09.13.12 | Evil Dead II is more enjoyable as a fun film, but The Evil Dead is more effective as a horror film if that makes any sense....
And Hellraiser is great for nostalgic purposes and all, but it is quite flawed when compared to a lot of other horror films imo, I fucking hate the term "dated" but I actually think it applies here |
EyesWideShut
09.13.12 | i would rate The Exorcist number due to the fact that it really is a masterpiece of horror and to this day they're are Christians that will not watch that film. Not to mention the legendary reactions it got during its release. |
ViralOblivion
09.13.12 | The list need the thing(1982) best horror movie ever |
ViralOblivion
09.13.12 | And jaws that also was a big deal people wouldn't go to the beach for the longest time |
SgtPepper
09.13.12 | I just saw The Exorcist for the third time last night.
"Your mother sucks cocks in hell."
- That line kills me every time. |
EyesWideShut
09.13.12 | yea its your list but having Inside, [rec], and The Decent and not having Hellraiser, The Thing, and Elm Street scares me more than anything on this list. |
PistolPete
09.13.12 | still need to see 12, I'm holding out bc part of me can't believe it has anything new to add to the genre
but I've obviously heard otherwise |
menawati
09.13.12 | Hmm..
Don't Look Now is a classic
Lost Highway (maybe not strictly horror but damn disturbing)
Night of the Demon
Jacob's Ladder (brilliant)
Videodrome
|
Hyperion1001
09.13.12 | in what ways is hellraiser flawed? the second one of course had a pretty weak plot, but when the original hellraiser came out it was a shining light in the sea of horror/comedy shlock being shit out by the end of the 80's
also i didnt notice you forgot the thing which is wtf |
Hyperion1001
09.13.12 | and yeah lack of cronenberg too, videodrome, dead ringers, the brood, the fly, Existenz
come on david cronenberg is the best director of this generation |
Ssssssss
09.13.12 | DRIVE THRU |
DarkSideOfLucca
09.13.12 | Yeah the thing would be way high on my list if I remembered it. Leaving that out was not intentional. |
Ire
09.13.12 | dead 2 better than 1
+1 |
menawati
09.13.12 | seriously Lucca, watch 'Jacob's Ladder' you'll love it, Tim Robbins is great in it and it's a hell of
a ride |
PayneTiger777
09.13.12 | Only movie that really scared me was Fire in the Sky. The scene when he is on the alien space ship freaks me the fuck out. |
DrMaximus
09.13.12 | Drive Thru? Ahahaha! That movies fucked |
jrm96
09.13.12 | Is jacobs ladder good? |
menawati
09.13.12 | idd |
DarkSideOfLucca
09.13.12 | Never saw a lot of these films you guys are talking about including jacobs ladder- thanks for the recommendations though! Been looking for new horror |
Bloodhail
09.13.12 | "And I don't really consider Predator a horror film, it's more of an unsettling action scifi"
you have alien as number 1 lol |
Hyperion1001
09.13.12 | watch hardware, its one of my personal favorite horror films
lemmy is in it |
Hyperion1001
09.13.12 | "you have alien as number 1 lol"
alien is scifi/horror while predator is an action film with a few horror elements, hes right
in fact the two really arent even comparable in terms of genre placement |
jrm96
09.13.12 | where's IT? |
DrMaximus
09.13.12 | where's IT?[2] |
ViralOblivion
09.13.12 | Alien is horror, redefined it not my favorite probably second favorite |
menawati
09.13.12 | does Blue Velvet count as horror ? not really i spose, wouldn't like to meet Frank tho |
DarkSideOfLucca
09.13.12 | Downloading "Don't Look Now" and "Jacob's Ladder" now because they seem to be the highest rated out of the ones recommended that I haven't seen so far. And I read "It", but I hadn't seen the movie. A few people told me it doesn't do justice to the book. |
jrm96
09.13.12 | but it's still a good movie |
DarkSideOfLucca
09.13.12 | Yeah, I stupidly left The Thing out. That movie is top notch. |
menawati
09.13.12 | another couple for u Lucca - House of 1000 Corpses and Devils Rejects, rob zombie flicks |
72haha72
09.13.12 | Props for Eyes Without a Face, such an amazing French film.
If you're into foreign and classic horror flims I'll recommend you a few you might have not seen yet:
Carnival of Souls
Diabolique
Eraserhead
Häxan
House (not exactly a horror film, but maybe you'll like)
Jigoku
Kwaidan
Onibaba
Peeping Tom
The Brood
The Skin I Live in (largely inspired by Eyes Without a Face)
The Tenant (better Polanski than Rosemary's Baby in my opinion)
The Vanishing
Videodrome
I give you my word as a film-buff, you should seriously check these movies out dude. Amazing stuff 8-) |
jrm96
09.13.12 | U r all forgettin IT |
Hyperion1001
09.13.12 | which house do you mean, the american one or hausu
cause both are pretty good even though the japanese one is better |
Trebor.
09.13.12 | pee-wee's big adventure
|
DarkSideOfLucca
09.13.12 | holy shit 72 thank you so much! ill be busy for a while now ahah
out of those I've seen House (for the first time today actually, pretty good, still trying to form an opinion on it aha it was not what I was expecting) Eraserhead (one of my favorites) and Diabolique (classic) |
YoYoMancuso
09.13.12 | lol @4, The Shinning was the Simpsons parody of The Shining |
menawati
09.13.12 | 'The Tenant (better Polanski than Rosemary's Baby in my opinion)' that reminds me polanski did a comedy vampire film called 'The Fearless Vampire Killers, or Pardon Me, But Your Teeth Are in My Neck', was quite funny |
Hyperion1001
09.13.12 | polanski is a great filmmaker too bad he fucked a 13 year old |
ViralOblivion
09.13.12 | Rom zombie movies suck dick like his music |
boogs
09.13.12 | Try The Orphanage, it's my personal favorite. |
menawati
09.13.12 | agree on music but Devils Rejects was ok |
Hyperion1001
09.13.12 | im looking forward to the new rob zombie film actually |
72haha72
09.13.12 | You're welcome Lucca! I hope you like them. I really liked House (I meant the Japanese one). I really like it's flat-out wackiness and it surreal imagery. If you're into watching movies constantly I really recommend you to explore this catalog. I never get enough out of these films:
http://www.criterion.com/library/expanded_view?b=Criterion&p=1&pp=50&s=spine |
jrm96
09.13.12 | lords of salem hell yea |
ReturnOfTheDnor
09.13.12 | List is missing the original Omen from 1976 and Jaws. |
72haha72
09.13.12 | Polanski has always been a consistently great director. Too bad he has a bad reputation. The Fearless Vampire Killers is great; it's cleverly funny and has a flawless atmosphere. In my opinion all of his movies are worth checking out, the weakest ones are most definitely Pirates and The Ninth Gate. |
menawati
09.13.12 | I know it isnt popular but I really enjoyed Ninth Gate. |
72haha72
09.13.12 | I kind of enjoyed The Ninth Gate. I don't think it's a bad movie, I just find its second half very weak compared to the first. I was really hooked by the beginning of the picture but the payoff was a bit of a letdown for me. I would really like to see Polanski making another film dealing with satanic stuff like Rosemary's Baby and The Ninth Gate though, that would be awesome. |
TMobotron
09.13.12 | Drag Me To Hell was the shit. Alien, Rosemary's Baby and The Shining are the best on here though. Gonna have to check out a couple I haven't seen. |
WashboardSuds
09.13.12 | I saw the shinning too, its a movie where the killer goes around ripping people's shins off |
InFiction
09.13.12 | The SHINNING. |
ViralOblivion
09.13.12 | I loved drag me to hell! It was so much fun cabin in the woods and that are the best comedy horrors of this generation |
Hyperion1001
09.13.12 | drag me to hell was good but cabin in the woods was disappointing
not that i didnt like it its just everyone was hyping it so much that when i finally saw it i was like "ok this isnt that clever" |
TMobotron
09.13.12 | "I loved drag me to hell! It was so much fun cabin in the woods and that are the best comedy horrors of this generation"
Some people who know I love drag me to hell have been telling me i need to see cabin in the woods, I'm waiting for a nice Blu-Ray copy to get my full enjoyment though which I think drops on the 18th. Can't wait. |
DarkSideOfLucca
09.13.12 | Cabin in the Woods is a fun time, but Drag Me To Hell is definitely better.
Also downloading Onibaba, Don't Look Now and The Tenant...hoorayyyyyy
Not too big on the Rob Zombie films personally. |
jrm96
09.13.12 | y download, just go to one of those sites where u can see them |
Calc
09.13.12 | Drag Me To Hell was a piece of shit...but this list should have IT and the Midnight Meat Train |
Calc
09.13.12 | when I was a kid that shit was no comedy. Horror movies aren't scary anymore so that's the criteria. Which now that I think about it is prolly why most the movies on this list are 30+years old |
KILL
09.13.12 | the first part of it is ok but when its with the adults holy shit its such a bad movie |
Hyperion1001
09.13.12 | the general consensus is that the first part of it is good while the ending sucks |
Calc
09.13.12 | yeah i saw it like 5 years ago and I agree. |
TMobotron
09.13.12 | "Drag Me To Hell was a piece of shit"
How wrong can you be? That movie is an exceptional parody of all the cliches of the genre, all the while intentionally exploiting it all to be miles better than everything it's mocking. It's a good horror movie but it's also fucking hilarious and one of the few breaths of fresh air in the genre within the last decade or so. |
Calc
09.13.12 | I can be very wrong and am a lot, but not about how shitty that movie is |
IndianaWarLord
09.13.12 | Slumber Party Massacre, F13 IV: The Final Chapter, Night of the Demons, Sleepaway Camp, April Fools Day, NOES 3: The Dream Warriors, Child's Play 2.
The Father: Halloween
The Son: Friday the 13th
and the Unholy Spirit: Nightmare on Elm Street.
The Exorcist is the greatest Horror movie of all time. |
