Reviewing My Own Reviews.
Including how I felt my writing was, and my opinions on the albums now. rList in order from rrearliest review to latest review. |
1 | | Transit Keep This To Yourself
This was my first review on this site. I do like most parts of the review, but I don't know
why I compared Hardcore with Pop-Punk. It seems like a really odd comparison to make
looking at this two years later.
This band is still spectacular though and this is still one of the best releases from them. I'm
seeing them next weekend and they're playing most of their releases from start to finish,
so I'll be really happy to see them perform this release. |
2 | | Vanna The Honest Hearts EP
I found it really odd that I didn't start describing songs until the last paragraph of the
review. My description of the instrumentality of this release is a little bit awkward as well.
This band is fucking horrible now. |
3 | | Soft Powers Bad Pop
When I wrote this, I really had no idea of what the fuck Shoegaze or Dream Pop was and it
really shows.
Band sucks. |
4 | | Lions Lions The Path We Take EP
I don't like this review either. Once again, I made allusions to a demographic of fans that
were totally irrelevant to the genre of music that this band plays. I did a track by track
review of the songs, and I hate that.
I used to see this band every other weekend, and they kind of became boring. |
5 | | Brokencyde Will Never Die
My worst review by far. I wrote it just to basically rant about the band. Yeah, they're
terrible, but I didn't give any reasons for why they were. I also added in a lot of half truths
or uneducated opinions about the band.
The band will always be fucking terrible. |
6 | | First Signs of Frost Atlantic
This review became a featured article on Sputnik. So I guess somebody thought it was
good. I just think it's funny that this review was featured, and the review before it got
about 30 negs.
I don't think this band is as spectacular as I made them out to be initially. |
7 | | Saints Never Surrender Brutus
I think this was a meh review. I hate my "Pros, Cons" section and I used a lot of generic
terms like "heartfelt" and whatnot. Though I do like that I went into detail with a few
songs.
Band is still great. |
8 | | Longshot Realignment
Generic, forgettable review. I didn't add in enough detail and I don't really like it.
Band used to be great before the vocalist left and he got replaced with the tour manager
for Vanna. From my experiences, that guy is an enormous piece of shit. |
9 | | Ms.White Squares
This one isn't that bad. I think it makes some great points about Post Hardcore at the
time. The formatting for this one was weird though. I mentioned the band a few times
but only bolded their name once. I also compared them to City of Caterpillar and I feel
like that's such a stupid comparison.
I haven't listened to this band in about a year, so I forget how they sound. |
10 | | I Am Empire Kings
I think that this was a really good review. I added in a lot of good detail about the
instruments and the vocals. I also feel like I did a good job highlighting a few particular
songs. Some of the sentences though give me a few cringes.
The band isn't as good as I thought they were. |
11 | | Defiler Pangaea
This review sucks. I did a terrible job describing the elements of the music.
Band also sucks. |
12 | | The Color Morale My Devil In Your Eyes
This review is okay. I think I did a good job describing this band's talent at a few points.
I wish I at least added in highlighting one song to make the review look more full and
informative.
The Color Morale is still good. I don't think they're a band anymore though. |
13 | | Texas In July One Reality
I was very split with my opinion on this album. I was in between thinking it was good or
terrible and my indecision is definitely evident in the review. I wish I gave it more plays
before I wrote about it.
I also made my decision, this band is terrible. |
14 | | Armor For The Broken The Black Harvest
I really liked they way this review came out initially, but now I think it sucks. The
formatting is terrible and my descriptions of songs are so bad.
The band was a local favorite in my area, and I thought they were great about 2
years ago. They broke up now, and to me, they're just average. |
15 | | Harm's Way Isolation
I like the descriptive detailing in the opening paragraph a lot. I'm sure it seems cheesy,
but I still feel it captures the brutality of this album. On the downside, I got the name of
their vocalist (James Pligge) wrong in an incredibly hilarious fashion. "Judge Hammers"
This band is still great. |
16 | | The Exploration Basement Demo
I kind of hate the way I wrote about this band. I know I could have written more about
their music. My opening paragraph sounds so douchey as well.
They got back together and released a few really good tracks. So that's cool. |
17 | | No Warning Ill Blood
I like this review, even though I made a lot of generic statements about the music they
played. I also hate my descriptions of their vocalist. On a brighter note, I still love my
description of the song Short Fuse.
This band will always be a classic. |
18 | | The Fake Boys Nice Knowing You
This was my first EP review in a while and I was proud of the outcome. It's kind of shaky,
but I think I did a good job describing their sound.
I LOVE this band and seeing them perform. My brother works with their vocalist and he's
an incredibly nice guy. |
19 | | No Omega No Omega
Another EP review. I think I overstepped my boundaries about comparing the Euro
Hardcore scene to the NWOBHM. Kinda feels foolish now.
Band blew it with their latest release. |
20 | | Burning Love Rotten Thing To Say
By far one of my best reviews. I think I did an excellent job describing Burning Love
without using generic phrases. However, I feel like my description of the song Broken
Glass could have used more description. I also love my opening and closing paragraphs.
Someone told me that my summary was stupid, but I thought it was fitting to make a
nod toward what the band was named after.
Burning Love is such a great band, Colohan rules. |
21 | | Power Trip Power Trip
I'm proud of this review because I was able to write about a 3 song EP. However, I feel like
my description of their song Brainwave was lacking in comparison to the detail I put into the
other two songs.
I'm so excited to see what this band can do in the next few months. |
22 | | Defiler Nematocera
Eye For An Eye does Defiler Pt.2. I am far happier with the outcome of this review versus
my review for their first album. I think I did a good job pointing out this bands flaws (while
not being a dick) and making fun of Frankie Palmeri (while being a dick) I also like to think
my jabs at the name of their album are clever.
Band sucks. |
23 | | Born Without Bones Say Hello
This was done last night. I am so happy that I was able to what basically is a track by
track review without it coming off as shitty. I love my descriptions of each songs and
poinitng out strengths and all that. I also felt my references to the album name was really
clever. However, this 'band' isn't really a band. It's all written by one person who performs
in a band. So it might read awkward to a person who wouldn't call them a band.
Born Without Bones is such a good band, and I can't wait to see them soon. |
