| America Vs Europe
Some genres I picked out of the air and whether America or Europe wins.
Isn't meant to be totally accurate it's just for discussion. Also interested to
hear who u think wins in other genres. | 1 | | Ramones Ramones
PUNK - proto-punk was an American thing MC5 but america was influenced by the British
Invasion (Kinks), UK had pub rock which was a catalyst for punk there, hard to call but probably
a win for America overall ? | 2 | | Opeth Still Life
METAL - Cream's unison riffing, Black Sabbath, Priest, NWOBHM, German thrash, Black Metal &
excellent Scandinavia stuff vs glam metal, Megadeath Metallica and thrash, power metal, doom,
Nu-Metal. Probably a win for Europe. | 3 | | Yes Fragile
PROG - Europe had the big guns in the past in the UK and Italy and most new prog releases come
from Europe and Rush are Canadian anyway, easy win for Europe | 4 | | Hank Williams 40 Greatest Hits
COUNTRY - no contest, America wins, but is it one you'd want to win ? | 5 | | Pixies Surfer Rosa
ALT Rock - USA 'college rock' & REM vs The Smiths, then grunge USA vs Britpop. I dunno too hard
to call. Needs an expert to decide. | 6 | | Johann Sebastian Bach Violin Sonatas
CLASSICAL - this is unfair bcos Europeans were chucking out stuff before America was even
colonised, but an easy win for Europe anyway | 7 | | blink-182 Enema Of The State
POP PUNK - no contest really, it's an American thang isnt it | 8 | | B.B. King Blues on the Bayou
BLUES - originated in USA, ragtime, BB King, Stevie Ray Vaughen, Hendrix, Johnson vs Green,
Clapton, Beck, Gallagher. Sheer historical roots have to award this to America. | 9 | | Kraftwerk Computer World
ELECTRONIC - Moog & mellotron in early UK prog, Ultravox and 80's snyth pop, electronic
dance music, Europe all the way | 10 | | Nas Hip Hop Is Dead
HIP HOP - who cares, oh well America is the winner obviously | |
menawati

10.31.12 | lol the US has nothing on europe, or just the UK itself
sabbath, maiden, priest, beatles, led zep, stones, radiohead. and thats without mentioning the rest of europe
| HitlerIsTheBest
10.31.12 | europe covers a huge area, so im sure overall there are more musicians i like over there than in america. plus fuck america. | Ryus
06.07.23 | punk - US ez
metal - prob europe
prog - europe
country - US duh
alt rock - US ez
classical - europe obv
pop punk - US lol
blues - US obv
electronic - menawati showin his lack of knowledge here smh. this is a kinda tough one though. US invented house/techno, the two biggest dance music subgenres. 70s stuff obviously goes to europe, but past that i think this is a win for the US
hip hop - US
big win for team america here. swept the genres that matter most (punk, country, electronic, hip hop) |
