JohnnyoftheWell
10.27.12 | Wow, that took forever |
ThunderNeutral21
10.27.12 | playing demon souls now. its amazing |
JohnnyoftheWell
10.27.12 | Ah, I might play that next (it's between demon souls and the witcher 2)
Also, thanks to everyone that rec'd me this |
JohnnyoftheWell
10.27.12 | Lol, I got pissed with the taurus demon and used a guide for a while afterwards, but it makes the game kinda boring agreed |
JohnnyoftheWell
10.27.12 | Ah, I got that but never tried it, stuck with a black knight halberd and murakumo for most of it |
IdiotequeCigar
10.27.12 | This game ate my life and spent my soul on Firebombs
and then I got to NG+... |
cliiint
10.27.12 | i got to sens fortress the first time WITHOUT the drake sword, but got FUCKING TIRED OF DRYING EVER 5 MINUTES literally so..
yeah... started the game over again, reading gamefaqs every step of the way. picked up the drake sword (which makes the first half of the game TOO easy, btw) made a lightning iato for my my dex build and finally beat the game.
I feel bad for 'cheating' this game but still, i've enjoyed every second of the last 5 playthroughs without faqs. I couldn't imagine trying this game without a walk through |
JohnnyoftheWell
10.27.12 | Agreed, makes it too easy; you learn to play the wrong way |
TheArkitecht
10.27.12 | I've just downloaded the new DLC for this and it's amazing, by the way the dogs in Lower Undead Burg aren't poisonous, they inflict bleed. Gwyns a pussy, you can just parry his attacks and he's as good as dead. I'd say bed of chaos or Four Kings are the most frustrating. Also fuck Tomb of the Giants, hate that area with a passion, too dark even with sunlight maggot and fuck those giant dogs. |
TheArkitecht
10.27.12 | Also it's all about Ricards Rapier, awesome weapon for pvp. |
JohnnyoftheWell
10.27.12 | Four Kings really aren't that bad if you go all out on them |
TheArkitecht
10.27.12 | True, I just went with full havel and a greatsword and went to town in the end. It's my only strategy for them now. |
JohnnyoftheWell
10.27.12 | Yeah same, I think I used Quelaag's furysword to get quick hits tho |
TheArkitecht
10.27.12 | It's been patched recently though with the release of the DLC so it deals less fire damage :( it used to be so much more awesome. |
JohnnyoftheWell
10.27.12 | aww that sucks
My xbox live has been dead for a while so I don't have dlc |
Evreaia
10.27.12 | 4kings NG+ is hardest boss by far, Ornstein and smough don't even come close (but I play mage and most every boss except for 4kings is actually piss easy) |
ApplicationToHeaven
10.27.12 | i don't get why anyone would use a magic build, dexterity and endurance focused builds are so much more fun, especially when you master parrying |
KeithStone582
10.27.12 | The dlc is fantastic. The bosses are hard as fuck which is great. |
Evreaia
10.27.12 | need to get my hand son the dlc then!
@ApplicationToHeaven; I just always play a mage, always. |
Ovrot
10.27.12 | But quelaag is so easy, all of her attacks have so much start up they are easy to avoid.
Sen's Fortress is the best area of the game. My favorite for sure. |
PayneTiger777
10.27.12 | The most troublesome part for me was getting past those two knights with the bows in Anor Londo. Other than that, I didn't think it was that hard. I didn't discover the painted world until my 3rd play through. |
JohnnyoftheWell
10.27.12 | Ugh agreed those knights are horrible
Sen's fortress is cool when you're strong enough to cope with it, before that it blows hard |
Ovrot
10.27.12 | You tell that to my level 10 pure crossbow build
He made sens suck his dick |
Evreaia
10.27.12 | those knight suck if you don't know the trick, if you know it they're alright
|
PayneTiger777
10.27.12 | I need to try a pure archer build next. Most of the time I make a brute or a sorcerer type in games like this.
My least favorite place was definitely the Tomb of the Giants. I hate not being able to see where I'm going and then walking into one of those skeletal dragons. My favorite place would have to be Anor Londo, to be honest, even though I hate those two knights with a passion. It just looks so massive and cool. |
KeithStone582
10.27.12 | My favorite place is probably Anor Londo even though I love so many of them. Least favorite is probably Tomb of the Giants. That place is just hard enough even without the who lack of light issue thing. Favorite boss is either Bert and Ernie or Stray Demon or Sif. They were all a blast to fight. |
TheArkitecht
10.27.12 | If you hate The Tomb of The Giants you'll hate Chasm of The Abyss in the DLC, just as fucking dark and frustrating enemies, though it does have an awesome boss in it. |
KeithStone582
10.27.12 | That's where I am right now. Got the Tomb of the Giants feel from it immediately. |
JohnnyoftheWell
10.27.12 | Anor Londo is awesome but the library/prison/random backyard cave of the Duke's Archives wins for me
Tomb of the Giants isn't amazing, but it adds variety to the game, Lost Izalith is way worse imo |
apert
10.28.12 | pre 1.05 patch lost izalith was so bad, but afterwards TOTG is probably the worst area, though i died most in sen's fortress |
Devastator
10.28.12 | Those two bosse where a bitch especially since I wanted the armor from one of them so I had to kill the other one first. Such a bitch, fantastic game though. |
PayneTiger777
10.28.12 | +15 Zweihander is my weapon. I also have a fire halberd that is pretty awesome. |
cliiint
10.28.12 | has anyone here actually read up on the lore? |
JohnnyoftheWell
10.28.12 | "You know there's a way you can play the game without Solaire going hollow ;) "
Yeah, but I couldn't be bothered to farm enough humanity to open the shortcut lol, and yeah EpicNameBro rules |
apert
10.28.12 | ENB is good for lore, but if you want to see some ridiculously impressive gameplay watch Vageta311. he's done multiple playthroughs without dieing and with crazy restraints on what he can use |
apert
10.28.12 | fair enough |
Solaire
09.27.13 | You know there's a way you can play the game without Solaire going hollow ;) [2] |
zakalwe
09.27.13 | This is the greatest game of all time. The challenge, the lore, the re-playability, the items, weapons, art, atmosphere, it's immaculate. |
Evreaia
09.27.13 | demon's souls >
also, playing as a mage the only bosses that are actually a challenge are capra (damned tight spaces + shitty equipment at new game) and 4 kings (getting physical with no strength sux). |
JohnnyoftheWell
09.27.13 | I have come to realise that Four Kings are pretty easy if you summon Beatrice, and Gwyn with Solaire is a piss-take |
Evreaia
09.27.13 | honestly no boss is that hard. Only one I still die is that damned tree (fucking cheap sweep attacks). |
JohnnyoftheWell
09.27.13 | After playing it relentlessly for ages and ages, I'm inclined to agree...Kalameet is a bitch though, especially if you go for the tail |
zakalwe
09.27.13 | Anyone who picked this up on the first attempt and just swanned through it with minimal agg and didn't think about giving up is talking cobblers. |
MosesMalone
09.27.13 | So I've had this game for months and never gotten to...the second boss. I can't remember what it's called. It's not that I've failed a million times; it's just that, leading up to him, I get discouraged half the time and, well, I dunno. I'm not a great gamer but I'm alright; so does anybody have any tips for how to do well on a first playthrough/how to learn the game properly/etc? |
JohnnyoftheWell
09.27.13 | Tip - keep going and be determined and be prepared to repeat over and over and over again.
That's basically all you need |
MosesMalone
09.27.13 | Huh. Well I've got this backlog of like five or six games I own that I need to play through and beat before I can justify buying GTA 5...I guess Dark Souls will hold me back for the foreseeable future. |
Evreaia
09.27.13 | don't rush?
honestly this game throws bonfires like you like no tomorrow, just take it slow its piss easy. this game is a flipping breeze compared to demon's souls |
MosesMalone
09.27.13 | Well if you say so. |
Evreaia
09.27.13 | or play a mage. If you get past capra you basically finished the game |
Veldin
12.24.14 | Just reached Blighttown. Wait, how did you easily beat Sif? |
widowslaugh123
12.06.22 | Best game ever. Good ranking |
zakalwe
12.06.22 | In the ten years since I initially binned this game but crawled back to it for reasons unknown I have played it constantly and compulsively ever since. Thousands of hours over the course of a decade.
Nothing has come close. (Bloodbourne is essential)
An absolute computer gaming masterpiece and I’ve been playing the things since pong on the Atari 2600 around 1984. |
Ryus
07.05.23 | this game is quite good actually |
Mort.
07.05.23 | queelag is piss easy boss git gud |
Ryus
07.05.23 | i wasnt expecting to enjoy this as much as i do. i am fighting the gaping dragon now m/ |
Ryus
07.05.23 | "so the fight can easily end in about 5 seconds" lmao this is what happened to me like the first 5 times i fought capra demon, then the 6th time i killed the dogs quickly and won quite easily. capra demon himself was a breeze |
Gyromania
07.05.23 | Fr she’s a joke, who is this noob? |
BaselineOOO
07.05.23 | Cool list. Blighttown is my favorite place in any Souls game. It's like a 3d mapping of my mind. |
Mort.
07.05.23 | your mind is a poison swamp with big boys holding boulders? |
JohnnyoftheWell
07.05.23 | Baseline's mind is populated by the corpses of dead sages and miracle cures that have little practical use in the world beyond
and okay okay Quelaag wouldn't come anywhere close to my top 5 now, but cmon her moveset and intimidation factor are a huge raise on anything else the game has thrown you at that point |
Bedex
07.05.23 | surprised queelag is so high tbh, also please tell me once you unflooded new london you went through valley of drakes and not all the way from firelink still
gret gaem |
Ryus
07.05.23 | i have done all of the game so far with a shortsword+5 and i think that needs to change soon lol |
Mort.
07.05.23 | black knight halberd is my go to tbh
|
MillionDead
07.05.23 | I was confused at the lack of knowledge for strats at first for certain areas/bosses and then I realized this list is from 2012 lol |
DocSportello
07.05.23 | love this game so much. rage-quit it for years then saw the light after finding bb in those bleak surreal numbers go up days of the pandemic |
Bedex
07.05.23 | "I was confused at the lack of knowledge for strats at first for certain areas/bosses and then I realized this list is from 2012 lol" [2] |
PotsyTater
07.05.23 | This list is hilarious in hindsight now that Jon considers himself a soulsborne giga Chad |
Ryus
07.05.23 | i want the claymore where do i get it
actually dont tell me |
PotsyTater
07.05.23 | Red hilt halberd is my fav ds1 weapon |
JohnnyoftheWell
07.05.23 | took me a long second to remember where you get the claymore, but pahaha oh boy have fun with that one |
Ryus
07.05.23 | idk what thst is but i have the regular halberd and its fun |
PotsyTater
07.05.23 | Red hilt has an entirely different move set it’s way better |
pizzamachine
07.05.23 | Dark Souls is goated. Lols Lostprophets on this list, nice |
PotsyTater
07.05.23 | Lol wow yeah the albums on this list wow |
JohnnyoftheWell
07.05.23 | this list is the next KILL or KEEP |
pizzamachine
07.05.23 | Haha |
BaselineOOO
07.06.23 | Johnny your writing was so elementary back in 2012, one can tell you dropped a shit ton of drugs to expand your consciousness to limitless levels. I'm proud of you |
Dewinged
07.06.23 | Well he was also 11 years younger.
The album selection is... interesting ;) |
Ryus
07.08.23 | just beat quelaag now im gettin my ass beat in sen's fortress
|
PotsyTater
07.08.23 | Proud of u |
Ryus
07.08.23 | there are so many places i have yet to go lol it's overwhelming. i've been to like 5 different places where i just nope outta there instantly cuz the enemies are too stronk |
PotsyTater
07.08.23 | You should probably do sens fortress last as a beginner.
Also what’s your drip? |
Ryus
07.08.23 | i have the +10 claymore and the crimson set which i just picked up. im level 35 i just keep leveling up strength+dex idk if thats optimal but seems to be working for me lol
"You should probably do sens fortress last as a beginner. "
i just killed the ceaseless discharge and tried to go further down in demon's ruins but i was getting my ass handed to me so i was like fuck it lemme do something easier. sen's fortress has been mad annoying but i wanna see where it leads |
PotsyTater
07.08.23 | That’s a peculiar set choice for a claymore wielder but fashion is more important than practicality in dark souls imo |
DocSportello
07.08.23 | damn you're definitely ready for sen's fortress imo. it's such a trip!! |
Ryus
07.08.23 | "That’s a peculiar set choice for a claymore wielder but fashion is more important than practicality in dark souls imo "
is there weapon/clothing synergy? lol i didnt even realize. i'm just wearing my best armor |
Ryus
07.08.23 | "damn you're definitely ready for sen's fortress imo. it's such a trip!!"
swag i'll keep at it |
DocSportello
07.08.23 | certain swag def impacts certain things. crimson set just looks dope af – and this is where it's at. I almost never use swag in souls for 'effect' i leave that to Elon and his fat roll er build |
Shemson
07.08.23 | Fun timing for this bump, I’m just playing this through for the first time!
Late to the party after Elden Ring being my first Fromsoft game but after 100%ing that I did the same with DS3 (apart from some things that require online which is dead on Xbox and now I’m doing a first run of Dark Souls remastered
It’s harder to work out the right routes but the combat is a bit dated compared to the others
I just killed the weird witch spider woman and rang the second bell… thank fuck I’m outa blight town! |
Ryus
07.08.23 | lmao nice we're literally right at the same place in the game shemson |
Ryus
07.08.23 | it took me so long to figure out where the fuck i was going in blighttown lol i was thankful to find quelaag's domain |
PotsyTater
07.08.23 | It it’s ur best it’s ur best. But you’ll find much better sets for a physical build soon enough |
Shemson
07.08.23 | Also, this list of albums being Johnny is very amusing but 36 was a big oops |
JohnnyoftheWell
07.08.23 | Crimson set does kinda bring it for actual protection but um yes yes godlike nomad rando garb |
Shemson
07.08.23 | Haha class! I’ve headed back to the gate near the blacksmith where my boy the onion knight from DS3 is hanging out and he’s already gone on ahead - nice!
Should get to play a bit more tomorrow!
I’ve got Claymore +7 and I think I’m about level 35-40 or something - where are you at Ryus? |
PotsyTater
07.08.23 | Peak ds1 fashion souls is Eastern set but with mask of child |
Shemson
07.08.23 | I haven’t found anything pretty yet in the first game but I love rocking the Xanthau (sp?) set in DS3 |
Ryus
07.08.23 | "I’ve got Claymore +7 and I think I’m about level 35-40 or something - where are you at Ryus?"
claymore +10 and im also around 35-40 |
Shemson
07.08.23 | Nice! I haven’t found enough titanite to level 10 yet, that’s impressive!
Did you find Havel and snag his ring yet? That ring and the one that helps you move quicker in water have been god sends! |
Ryus
07.08.23 | no i dont know who that is :O |
DocSportello
07.08.23 | just realized this list doesn't even include DLC bosses/areas. god I'm so jealous of the journey ahead of you Ryus. def keep us updated :) |
PotsyTater
07.08.23 | Bruh you haven’t even met Havel yet??????? |
PotsyTater
07.08.23 | I feel like there are several much easier areas you must have not completed |
Ryus
07.08.23 | probably lol
i noped out of darkroot garden, demon's ruins, those skeleton fuckers near firelink, and new londo ruins whenever those ghosts appear. haven't really been through the valley of drakes, only on the way back from quelaags |
Shemson
07.08.23 | Havel is quite missable but you should’ve had at least one chance to find him.
I don’t wanna give spoilers but one requires the master key close to the first time you meet Solaire and the other is near the Hydra |
DocSportello
07.08.23 | hmm yeah Havel's ring is great, worth looking up maybe (?)
have you met the moonlight butterfly ? |
PotsyTater
07.08.23 | Ya all of those areas are recommended to do before sens in most area order guides lmao |
PotsyTater
07.08.23 | And yeah if you are doing claymore you’re gonna want havels ring so you can still wear good armour without fat rolling |
DocSportello
07.08.23 | I know I just encouraged you to go full-steam ahead into sen's but darkroot garden could be worth it ;) |
Shemson
07.08.23 | I noped demon ruins and Londo so far too, seemed too hardcore and from going straight to Caelid in Elden Ring I know how that can be!
Check Darkroot before moving in though, you’re ready, I’ve cleared it out including a great boss! |
Ryus
07.08.23 | interesting i will back towards darkroot garden then. i'm chillin at the bonfire near andre so that's convenient
"have you met the moonlight butterfly ?"
nay i have not, im assuming that's the darkroot garden boss tho |
PotsyTater
07.08.23 | Also ryus there are items you can use to kill those ghosts or you can use a blessed or holy weapon or whatever tf |
Ryus
07.08.23 | yeah i have an item to kill the ghosts, will go back there soon |
PotsyTater
07.08.23 | Also did you go inside the giant tree in blighttown? |
JohnnyoftheWell
07.08.23 | "Ya all of those areas are recommended to do before sens in most area order guides lmao"
well that explains my first playthough RIP
do darkroot asap probably |
DocSportello
07.08.23 | "Also did you go inside the giant tree in blighttown?"
LOL don't send him back to Blighttown YET |
PotsyTater
07.08.23 | Haha I always make sure to do it while I’m there so I never have to go back |
Ryus
07.08.23 | uhhh i dont think so but yeah fuck blighttown im avoiding that shithole for now |
JohnnyoftheWell
07.08.23 | the GIANT TREE is sacred and mandatory and one of the best wtf is this parts of the game lol
p****ed w*rld can eat its heart out |
Ryus
07.08.23 | also can i just say FUCK those frog motherfuckers at the bottom of the depths i got cursed by them like 3 times then i had to grind to get rid of it by buying that item from the undead merchant |
DocSportello
07.08.23 | I always go back to blight town for Siegmeyer's quest : ( |
PotsyTater
07.08.23 | Ya you gotta go back to blighttown ryus so sorry. There is a whole other area beneath it that you have to climb down the inside of a giant tree to get to after hitting a series of illusory walls |
Ryus
07.08.23 | i just looked up how to get to the great hollow. what the fuck dude i was literally like a foot from it and missed it lmao nooooooo |
DocSportello
07.08.23 | "Ya you gotta go back to blighttown [after Sen's Fortress + beyond] ryus so sorry"
it's tru tho |
JohnnyoftheWell
07.08.23 | "i just looked up how to get to the great hollow. what the fuck dude i was literally like a foot from it and missed it lmao nooooooo"
yeah um lol you didn't arbitrarily punch the tree in the right place and the game hates you for it
|
Gyromania
07.08.23 | I implore you to remake this list, Johnny. OR let’s collab on a top 20-50 overall fromsoft bosses/levels list, including all their games from Demons Souls up to Elden Ring. |
DocSportello
07.08.23 | Malenia is NOT a top-tier boss |
Shemson
07.08.23 | Hahaha ffs I didn’t need to read that about returning to blighttown damn
Yeah those frogs suck. I knew they were gonna have deathblight from playing Elden Ring but the bar is so small on this game you have to be so careful |
PotsyTater
07.08.23 | “ also can i just say FUCK those frog motherfuckers at the bottom of the depths i got cursed by them like 3 times then i had to grind to get rid of it by buying that item from the undead merchant”
Boy does the commute down giant tree have some surprises for you |
DocSportello
07.08.23 | yeah but MAN cursed or not your jaw will drop when ya reach the bottom |
Gyromania
07.08.23 | Malenia is top tier, but she requires you to put a lot of practice in. I promise once you know how to dodge her attacks consistently the fight really opens up. Most of From’s more initially frustrating bosses end up being my favourites, like Owl Father and Sword Saint |
PotsyTater
07.08.23 | The lesson to be learned here is to hit all walls with your sword forever |
Shemson
07.08.23 | I mean, Malenia is a top tier boss, it’s a beautiful battle and super hard without summons
My favourite fight so far from doing ER, DS3 and half of DS is probably Friede. I couldn’t believe it when that health bar came back up for a third time 🤣
The hardest I’ve faced, maybe because I was underleveled and was playing blind so didn’t have any summons outside the room was Pontiff Sulyvan and special mentions for Dancer and Twin Princes |
Ryus
07.08.23 | "The lesson to be learned here is to hit all walls with your sword forever "
i already absorbed this lesson from hollow knight but still missed that shit |
Gyromania
07.08.23 | Friede is top tier too, as well as Gael, Dancer, Godfrey, etc |
PotsyTater
07.08.23 | Wow gyro way to ruin everything |
Ryus
07.08.23 | the only boss so far that felt not very fun/badly designed was ceaseless discharge. i'm not sure if this was the "correct" way to fight him but i basically just hit behind that rock, baited him into swinging his arm, then hack at it a couple times, repeat ad nauseam until he died. wasnt a great fight. all the other bosses have been great though |
Shemson
07.08.23 | Hold up… you can unlock fast travel 😳 |
DocSportello
07.08.23 | Yeah I get that and why she's held in high esteem for that but I personally find her fight boring and well telegraphed and parryable, not 'epic' enough for me. Commander Niall is much more fun/rewarding fight imo. Def a snobby take, Malenia is obviously a great challenge, it's just one I never look forward to – and not bc I'm dreading it. So idk I'd score her in the mid-range. Better than Mohg tho |
JohnnyoftheWell
07.08.23 | the "correct" way to fight ceaseless discharge is 10x dumber and more underwhelming than that, you did well
and i don't think i have ever seen a boss epitomise the concept of A minus tier harder than Malenia |
DocSportello
07.08.23 | yeah make ceaseless chase you all the way to the fog gate and it'll fall down and die instantly :D |
Shemson
07.08.23 | How do you guys like to play FromSoft games?
I like to play blind once and then read everything so I can get the usual weird endings and other secrets I missed!
My first Elden Ring playthrough I managed to complete Ranni by accident
My first DS3 I was on track to do the hollow ending until I found a secret assassin near my favourite girl knight and killed him… turned out that was frowned upon! |
PotsyTater
07.08.23 | “ not sure if this was the "correct" way to fight him but i basically just hit behind that rock, baited him into swinging his arm, then hack at it a couple times, repeat ad nauseam until he died. wasnt a great fight. all the other bosses have been great though”
Hahahahahahahhaha |
PotsyTater
07.08.23 | Pretty much same Shem but before I complete my first play though I back track and do everything I can that I missed. Second run I use online resources to make sure I 100% all the quests and such |
Shemson
07.08.23 | Yeah that’s not a bad shout Pots, on my first playthrough of ER I completely missed Mohgs Palace then I started reading and everyone was on about the bird farm and I had no idea wtf they meant 🤣
I also missed a lot of cool spots like the tower that gives madness and the village around it |
DocSportello
07.08.23 | "How do you guys like to play FromSoft games?"
• My gf got me DSR for our 360 and I rage quit after 4 hours
• 2 years later I found Bloodborne and got really mad when I realized it was the same developer as DSR. But the pandemic was getting to me and that's when it all clicked for me. I looked a few things up on the wiki but realized blind playthrough was the way
• Restarted DSR and only used guides to understand weapon upgrades
• Played DS3 completely blind first time, was so hard, so rewarding
• DS2 just needs to be experienced, use a guide
• Did a SL1 run of DSR and it was probably my fav play through ever
• Sekiro no guide, no guide needed lol
• Played OG DeS before remake, now that was rough. I couldn't even finish. World Tendency system is incredible but not when the servers are dead
• Elden Ring use guides but only cuz I need to remember where everything I want even *is* anymore lol |
DocSportello
07.08.23 | Guides ARE really helpful for keeping track of quest lines though, that must be said |
Shemson
07.08.23 | lol I can see why people would rage quit Doc
I was always a pretty casual gamer but I love RPGs like The Witcher and Elder Scrolls games and there wasn’t really anything new last year so I thought I’d give Elden Ring a go even though ‘it’s made by those guys who make the super hard souls games’ - best decision ever and the only game I’ve ever insisted on 100%ing before moving on
If it wasn’t for doing ER and DS3 and having total faith how good an experience I was in for I could imagine quitting the original |
Shemson
07.08.23 | Yeah Doc, I’m hoping I’ve not missed a random encounter with Solaire or my onion pal… I think I’m doing the areas in a good order though hopefully but you never know
I definitely missed Millicent on a random hill after the first Grand Lift in Elden Ring which sucked |
DocSportello
07.08.23 | If you haven't finished Sen's fortress don't worry Onion Bro do be ahead |
DocSportello
07.08.23 | Solaire too :) |
Shemson
07.08.23 | Oh nice! Yeah if that’s what lies behind the big gate the second bell opened up then I’m on my way tomorrow night as my wife’s away on a work thing for a couple of nights so I’ll be having a couple of good sessions |
DocSportello
07.08.23 | Hell yeah!! Hope u enjoy!
ps: I don't want to mislead u . . . don't look for those npcs *in* the fortress, they'll find u afterwards |

07.09.23 | iron golem was a noob, im in anor londo bitches
what fromsoft game should i play after this? ive heard mixed things about DS2. i have sekiro but i might get DS3 as well. don't have a way to play bloodborne rn unfortunately |
JohnnyoftheWell
07.09.23 | DS3 is the direct sequel to DS1 in all but name lol so you could skip there, but DS2 is vital and underloved and a rly cool peek into what the series might have been if they took an RPG focus instead of going full action blockbuster (though Elden Ring has seen that thru now). DLC essential though, don't touch it without
"i dont understand the placements with the descriptions stupid bitch ass"
read the description you literal punk bitch child latrine |
Ryus
07.09.23 | i will probably do sekiro next to switch things up |
auberginedreams
07.09.23 | Sens fortress is fucking ass the first time mostly because there’s no checkpoints and a lot of cheap deaths. I’ve beat the game 3 times and the archers in Anor Londo still suck even with cheese that doesn’t always work for some reason. Bed of Chaos is borderline RNG. Capra Demon is annoying the first time but gets easier after that. The hardest boss for me was Magus as a mage, legit took me like 50 tries. I think I killed him first try with a strength build though lol. Overall great game but has the most janky bs of any of the Souls games which can get annoying.
|
s0nicx
07.09.23 | Fuck the Bed of Chaos. Absolutely fuck that bullshit. |
auberginedreams
07.09.23 | Dark Souls 2 is pretty much proto-Elden Ring if that makes sense. It has some hilariously bad hitboxes (trust me you will at some point die even though it’s visibly obvious that the enemy did not even touch you, there are YouTube clips you can check out that are pretty funny) and you need to invest points to get i-frames in your dodge, but other than a few weird things it’s pretty underrated. The DLC is really good too. But yeah DS3 is the real sequel to DS1 both gameplay wise and narratively. |
PotsyTater
07.09.23 | Ryus you should just go in order of release tbh so that you don’t make the older games feel jankier in hindsight. Sekiro is gonna make dark souls 2 feel fucked. This is a logical point to optimize your experience of ds2. |
PotsyTater
07.09.23 | You’ll get to switch it up after ds2 with bloodborne anyway |
DocSportello
07.09.23 | I love ds2 but it's def p 'janky', can't imagine what I'd think doing it for the first time fresh off Sekiro |
Gyromania
07.09.23 | DS2 has not aged well. It was very stupid of them to have I-frames scale with a stat (adaptability I think?). Don’t level up adaptability and it’s basically impossible to dodge anything, level it up a lot and you have the most broken dodge roll in FS history. Enemy placement is so garbage in that game too, esp in some of the dlc pack (mostly Brume Tower iirc. The dlc bosses are for sure the highlight of the game and I think Fume Knight holds up as the best among them |
PotsyTater
07.09.23 | Oh yeah get the scholar of the first sin edition of ds2 as it includes all the dlc and some different enemy placements and such and ignore all the haters it’s a great game. I started with ds2 and it made ds1 feel janky in comparison and took some getting used to (tho ds1 is still my all time fav souls game anyway) so it will feel just fine to play from here. But it will feel very strange to play if you go back to it from pretty much any other point. |
Gyromania
07.09.23 | I think DS1 mechanically feels way closer to 3 than it does to 2. I got insane value out of 2 and will always have a soft spot for it after 650 hours spent in it, but if anything I’d say going from 1 to 2 makes 2 feel jank. I just don’t know why they chained iframes to a stat but it really screws up the entire balancing of the game. |
DocSportello
07.09.23 | yeah ADP is an absolute travesty |
JohnnyoftheWell
07.09.23 | i have played through DS2 like 10+ times and never once levelled ADP above 40 (or felt a need to). git gud, embrace the jank, enjoy the best wardrobe in the series |
PotsyTater
07.09.23 | I have not experienced initially going from 1 to 2 so I can’t really comment on that but going from 2 to 1 at first I almost tapped out because it was so jarring. But that was going from 2 to the original ds1, I’m sure it would have been much less so going to the remaster |
PotsyTater
07.09.23 | @jon same pretty sure I only have ever gone 20-30 adp. Tbh i don’t notice all this iframe shit in any games ever, that’s all nerd shit that’s beyond me I just spank the monsters with the sword and if it missed I’m like oh no I missed |
PotsyTater
07.09.23 | Never once played and thought anything felt off with dodging either I just roll and prayge |
Gyromania
07.09.23 | Any stat above like 30 or 40 has greatly diminishing value, so if you got it to 40 or even 30 then you’re solid and I’m sry to say you are a confirmed scrub after all Johnny =[ |
Gyromania
07.09.23 | Pots: well if you played DS3 then you were for sure abusing them iframes I’d imagine haha. I think the iframe roll is one of the best things about FS games. Shields are for noobs, dodge roll for life |
DocSportello
07.09.23 | once u have 100ish agility there's no real need to level ADP ever again imo |
PotsyTater
07.09.23 | Idk man I just dodge a lot in all these games idk anything about iframes |
PotsyTater
07.09.23 | Tbh I think snoxall made me super adverse to thinking about or taking any of that shit into consideration or learning anything about it because he was so fucking annoying about it |
DocSportello
07.09.23 | yikes haven't seen that name in a while. understandable |
Shemson
07.09.23 | Oh maaaaan I just got to play for about an hour and a half and Sens Fortress was crazy. So many traps, boulders and pendulums!
I got to find my onion knight mate briefly, killed the giant behind a secret wall, a bunch of those rock dudes down in the water and then managed to out run some more boulders (this time being thrown by a big dude and found a bonfire!)
Also found a mimic with a lightening spear!
More tomorrow after work I think! |

07.09.23 | dark souls makes me incredibly nostalgic |
PotsyTater
07.09.23 | Tho on the flip side of the envy of experiencing these games for the first time there is also the smug satisfaction of reading someone complain about ornstein and smough now that you can basically beat them blindfolded because you’ve fought them so many fucking times lmao |
Mort.
07.09.23 | one of my most ingrained gaming memories is going through anor londo for the first time
only surpassed by the amount of the times in elden ring i went further on and thought 'when the fuck does thi area end'
god im such a fromsoft fanboy and totally unapologetic |
Mort.
07.09.23 | lol yeah i thought o&s where so hard originally and now ds1 is a cake walk
but elden ring beats my ass at certain points lol |
Shemson
07.09.23 | Lol I’ll let you know how I get on with O&S… I’ve heard the legends
I can slay Elden Ring and DS3 now though so in a way I have an unfair advantage with more souls experience. I can’t imagine anything being harder than The Ringed City DLC and I think that kinda took the shine off how hard blight town was given I’d already done that |
PotsyTater
07.09.23 | I wouldn’t trust the opinion of someone who plays video games and isn’t a fromsoft simp for literally anything |
PotsyTater
07.09.23 | @shem yeah you will have the experience of managing multiple bosses at once already so that will give you an edge for sure |
Ryus
07.09.23 | i dont play video games all that much so i wasnt expecting to love DS1 despite the obv amazing reception. but it has been living up to it |
Shemson
07.09.23 | I hadn’t really loved a game for a long time before Elden Ring other than the Resi 2 remake, Silent Hill 2 and 3 (which I only played for the first time a couple years ago) and before that The Witcher 3 and it’s DLCs so the fact Elden Ring made me want to 100% it and then go back and do all the other fromsoft games makes me bow down to them as my favourite studio for sure now.
The music is amazing too. The way the Firelink Shrine changes in DS3 when you give the fire keeper the eyes moved me every time I went back there before doing that ending. Amazing stuff |

07.10.23 | Lol Dewinged my wife is so sick of me telling her about Dark Souls and Elden Ring lore I just keep it all in now 🤣
Such interesting worlds though and the fact that nothing is spelt out to you and so much is open to interpretation makes it extra mysterious which I love |
zakalwe
07.10.23 | The fuck is the lore behind the fire keeper and the eyeballs? |
Shemson
07.10.23 | I read a lot of lore online and this sums up that ending quite well.
The One explores the ruins of once-glorious kingdoms during their journey, uncovering how the Cycle of the Flame brought powerful Lords to ruins. Should the Ashen One push forward in their quest to find the truth, the player might travel to another time, where the Firelink Shrine is covered in darkness. There, the player must face Champion Gundyr, a warrior chosen to rekindle the flame, but who unfortunately arrived too late to do his job.
As a weakened and corrupted version of Gundyr challenges the player before the Firelink Shrine in their timeline, it’s safe to say this Dark Firelink Shrine is a place from the past. Another hint that the Dark Firelink Shrine is in the past is the presence of the Shrine Handmaiden. If you talk to the merchant in the Dark Firelink Shrine, without ever talking to her elsewhere, she’ll then recognize you once you are back to the regular Firelink Shrine. That means the events that take place in the Dark Firelink Shrine happen before the events of the beginning of the game. Odd enough, that would mean the Flame was already extinguished before. Shouldn’t the Age of Dark have covered the world, then? So how come the Flame is still burning in the present if it already faded away in the past? The answer might lie with a (not so) fresh pair of eyes.
Inside the Dark FIrelink Shrines, the Ashen One can find the Eyes of a Fire Keeper, who witnessed the start of the Cycle of the Flame and still holds its secrets. Giving the Eyes to the present-time Fire Keeper allows her to see what the First Fire Keeper once saw, and a new ending is unlocked. Once the player defeats the Soul of Cinder, they can summon the Fire Keeper, and together they can put out the First Flame. In this ending, the Flame has faded, and the Age of Dark will soon begin. Nevertheless, the Fire Keeper warns the Ashen One that embers from Lords of the past will reignite the Flame in the future, and fire will once again burn in the darkness.
Graced with the visions of the First Fire Keeper, our guide reveals that letting the Flame fade away might not be enough. Gwyn’s First Sin changed the world forever, and there’s no escaping the eternal Cycle. Of course, the Flame might fade temporarily, just as it happened when Champion Gundyr failed his duty. The Age of Dark, though, cannot last forever, as Gwyn’s unnatural interference with the world order condemned everyone to a future of ruins. |
zakalwe
07.10.23 | Could be argued that Gwyn is actually trying to establish order due to the corrupting nature of Darkness/Humanity that is a one way road to madness, ironically achieving it by corralling the hollowed/insane to rekindle the flame and continue his on going self sacrifice.
Here’s your eyeballs love if you want me I’ll be in the Grand Archives. |
Shemson
07.10.23 | One of my favourite things about souls/Elden ring law is that you can empathise with most of the characters
Even mad bastards like Shabriri and the dungeater kind of make sense and you get their points
I haven’t reached Gwyn yet so I’ll draw my own conclusions later but I imagine him to be a dude who thought he did what he had to |
zakalwe
07.10.23 | They are amazing games. Dark Souls I (which is the greatest of all time and I’ve been playing games since the ZX Spectrum) still has an unmatched atmosphere though. |

07.14.23 | @Ryus have you played Bloodborne yet? That’s still my favorite Souls/Soulslike game (maybe tied with Elden Ring). I even used a Bloodborne quote as a song title on my second EP. The DLC is great too. Actually almost all the FromSoft DLC is great so I’m excited for the Elden Ring DLC. |
Ryus
07.14.23 | naah this is my first fromsoft game. i wanna play it but dont have a console rn sadly |
JohnnyoftheWell
07.14.23 | I replayed most of the first Nioh (which I used to adore) for the first time since completing the final NG+ on Nioh 2 (which I v much still adore and would take over half the From canon) and yikes yeah, the mechanics are much less forgiving, the level design less engaging, the enemies pretty homogeneous and the character options generally fewer. Nioh 1 DLC is awesome and worth playing for, but it's a pretty bumpy ride to get there (still enjoyed it but) |
PotsyTater
07.14.23 | Do the bosses ever start getting less unfathomably lame in 2? |
auberginedreams
07.14.23 | Lame in what way? It’s been a couple years so I don’t remember super well. |
PotsyTater
07.14.23 | Aesthetically. I just found the first few bosses in 2 to be really really shittily designed compared to the nioh 1 bosses which I generally quite liked |
JohnnyoftheWell
07.14.23 | Did you get as far as kamaitachi?
Horse demon boi was way cooler than the first Nioh 1 boss, but I could fire mama twister and SNEK being underwhelming. Load of cool bosses in that game though |
PotsyTater
07.14.23 | I did not but I googled it and the scythe weasel is not doing it for me |
PotsyTater
07.14.23 | Tbh tho there are a lot of art direction choices in those games that I dislike in general. I love the shrine bois tho and the sounds they make |
PotsyTater
07.14.23 | All the glowy yellow and red bullshit on every enemy is so tacky |
JohnnyoftheWell
07.14.23 | hmm in that case I think you missed most of the best ones - my fav bosses in the game don't start rolling until around the 75% mark (kamaitachi is a fun but breezy early-mid game fight for reference)
I'm tryna think of Nioh 1 bosses that nailed it on aesthetics, and honestly not coming up with much besides hickey parasol lady, thunderpussy and disney ice queen |
PotsyTater
07.14.23 | There were only a handful in 1 that I thought were outright dogshit looking, and lots of humanoid ones which were less abrasive on the eyes then the fucking ridiculous haphazardly slapped together b.s. like that Fuckin snake with more snakes as arms. All the bosses I fought in nioh 2 were in the dogshit category but I only fought about 5 |

07.15.23 | Got in five hours play on DS1 today. Finished the painted world which was amazing, loved the boss fight (she killed me the first time as I wasn’t expecting the Sister Friede invisibility act) but got her second time and then fought my way to O&S who I killed first time without ever watching a video of them or anything… pretty proud of that but I must be over-levelled
Just unlocked fast travel and met my boy the onion knight back at firelink and felt like a hero reviving the fire keeper! |
PotsyTater
07.15.23 | Killing o&s first time with no prior knowledge on how to fight them is Chad af
Did you kill ornstein (beanpole) or smough (fatty) first? |
Shemson
07.15.23 | Lol thanks mate, i don’t think it’s the same given I’ve done ER and DS3 (recognised the room from Aldrich fight!!) and I was level 55 with a +10 claymore and black knight armour around lvl 3
I killed the fast one first as he came at me quickest and the big lad was slow so it made sense to run to each corner and get hits on the fast lad before fatty got there. Then fatty got turbo charged and almost one hit me so I ran away a lot but got it done! |
zakalwe
07.15.23 | Bollocks! |
Shemson
07.15.23 | Haha why would I lie Zak 🤣
I was high level with a good weapon and I’ve played a lot of fromsoft so I made it through the fight first time |

07.15.23 | I did make a typo though - lvl 65 not 55 which is why I’ve been saying over-levelled |
zakalwe
07.15.23 | An incredible achievement |
Shemson
07.15.23 | I’m just happy I can fast travel now finally tbh
No idea what to do with this Lord vessel thing but I think that weird evil bunny sock puppet chatted about it and the Lord of cinder a lot like the big chesty lady did so I’ll go chat with him next time I play |
zakalwe
07.15.23 | Best game of all time |
Shemson
07.15.23 | Yeah Zak my only gripes are the gameplay is dated (makes sense being 12y old) and some of the areas are a bit bare like inside Anor Londo I was disappointed with how empty the halls were - general scenery is amazing but I’ve been spoilt playing DS3 and ER before it
The level design and the way they allow you to open short cuts back to bonfires is outstanding on this though, really incredibly well put together |
zakalwe
07.15.23 | The game is full of secrets. Anor Londo is not all it appears to be.
Best game of all time!!! |
Shemson
07.15.23 | Interesting… I thought I’d completed it after beating the bosses, meeting the big lady, completing the painted world and rescuing my onion mate - looking forward to finding out more! |
PotsyTater
07.15.23 | “ given I’ve done ER and DS3 (recognised the room from Aldrich fight!!)”
Oh yeah this definitely would give you ample preparation for it.
Killing beanpole first is the easier route imo, extra fat fatty is a lot easier than giga beanpole |
parksungjoon
07.15.23 | this is the most fun ive ever seen zak have |
zakalwe
07.15.23 | Played it since 2011. I reckon in that time I’ve easily put in a thousand hours. Absolutely fucking ridiculous but not a minute wasted on that masterpiece I tell ya. |
Shemson
07.15.23 | Good to know, I’ll have to try fatty first next time and check out the other lad extra hyped up
I’m guessing there are a few different endings so I’ll need a few plays to roll through the achievements (though I’ll probably end up stopping short of 100% like DS3 because online was dead) |
PotsyTater
07.15.23 | Ya definitely do it reverse next time because that’s how you get ornsteins armour. You’ll only be able to get smoughs if you killed him first |
Ryus
07.15.23 | is pinwheel even a boss wtf was that |
CaliggyJack
07.16.23 | Based list.
Only difference is I'd put Centipede Demon dead last. I modded my DS game so I could delete him from the game I hate him so much. |
PotsyTater
07.16.23 | “ is pinwheel even a boss wtf was that”
Lol
Now you have access to mask of child tho which is best mask in the game while also being peak fashion souls |
Shemson
07.16.23 | Had some more hours today and went on some great adventures
My onion pal said he was going down below and I remember you said about having to go to blighttown so I figured I should go find him
Thanks to some kind notes on the floor about illusionary walls I ended up in that hollowed out tree and fought my way down to another hydra boss and a big dragon lad who’s covenant I joined
All pretty simple after doing Darkroot and the likes on ER
I had also been told I needed to visit the crow so I went and pretended to be an egg and he carried me back to the start!
I completely ruined my shine from beating O&S first time by getting wrecked by that big demon under the ground
Took me nine attempts to finally put him down and was my hardest battle so far weirdly
After that my sock puppet mate took me to drop off the Lord vessel which was nice of him
Then I did the catacombs and can confirm, pinwheel was a joke
Just started in the giants place
Died about six times because I didn’t have a lamp
Then patches very kindly kicked me down into a pit with a lamp
I rewarded him by killing him as he fought me on sight second time round… guess he didn’t like clerics!
And that’s me for now :) |
zakalwe
07.16.23 | Best game of all time!
You’ve missed your opportunity to elucidate your fate on this play though. |
Shemson
07.16.23 | Of course I did Zak lol (no idea what that means 🤣) |
Shemson
07.16.23 | Played another hour and tomb of the giants is no joke
Because I’ve been playing two handed claymore having to switch between that and a lantern the whole time is painful and I have no idea where I’m going 🤣
It took me walking round in circles for about 15 mins to find the little ramp downwards after going through the fog gate which then opens up a circle back round to where I killed patches! |

07.17.23 | curious if there's a bonfire in there i missed (no one tell me) but the run to four kings isnt so bad cuz i found a lil shortcut to bypass the ghosts. should beat it next time |
Gyromania
07.17.23 | yeah there are 4 bonfires down there, and one down the well but you have to jump down without the abysswalker ring on
|
PotsyTater
07.17.23 | Four kings is one of the worst fights in the game by far |
PotsyTater
07.17.23 | It’s literally just a dps race |
Gyromania
07.17.23 | Honestly most fights are just a dps race lol. Love the atmosphere of the fight though, and back in the day those massive aoe moves were impressive
|
PotsyTater
07.17.23 | I don’t agree with that at all, most bosses in the game can be tackled from several angles. You could feasibly turn most of them into a dps race with a tank build but it’s not baked into their design like it is with four kings. That fight is literally just “kill each one as fast as you can while these guys hurl magic at you or get overwhelmed”. Like the only strategy for those guys is pretty much just to smash attack button while sucking up every one of their blows straight to the face until they are all dead. If you spend time learning their moves and dodging etc you just end up fighting multiple at once so it basically just entirely disencourages engaging with them in any meaningful way. The atmosphere is cool tho ya |
Gyromania
07.17.23 | I’ve always dodged their attacks and had no problem killing them before I could get overwhelmed, but then again I am normally using the black knight halberd which does insane damage. I guess for lower dps characters the boss is a bit frustrating and gimmicky, but I mean that gimmick isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Most of the time you are trying to kill the bosses as quickly and optimally as possible. |
PotsyTater
07.17.23 | It’s not frustrating it’s just poorly designed, and no, most of the time you are not just standing there and smashing the attack button |
PotsyTater
07.17.23 | You don’t need to be oversimplifying the level of engagement that goes into fighting any number of fromsofts many iconically designed boss fights just to prop up one of their most mediocre |
Ryus
07.17.23 | "yeah there are 4 bonfires down there, and one down the well but you have to jump down without the abysswalker ring on"
cap
"It’s literally just a dps race "
yeah thats what it seems like. imma havel up and smack those dudes
|
Gyromania
07.17.23 | Yeah idk, I don’t have a problem with it being on a timer, I’m usually trying to wreck bosses as fast as possible regardless. Calling it one of the worst seems a stretch, it sure as shit is better than any of the other big bosses like Seath, Nito, and Bed of Dogshit. Also way better than Ceaseless Discharge, Capra Demon, Taurus Demon, Dark Sun Gwyndolin, Moonlight Garbage, Crossbread Priscilla, Pinwheel, Demon Firesage. Honestly, DS1 boss roster is pretty weak compared to DS3, BB and Sekiro, but there are some classics for sure. And obv 4 Kings don’t come close to Astorias, Manus, Bell Gargoyles, Kalameet, Gwyn. |
Ryus
07.17.23 | i thought nito was cool |
Gyromania
07.17.23 | Lore wise and visually yeah Nito is sweet but his boss fight is garbage imo |
Mort.
07.17.23 | yeah i find nito a bit irritating but the general atmosphere/lead up to that fight is very cool
|
Ryus
07.17.23 | i liked the fight itself as well. only thing that pissed me off was when i got too close to the gigaskeletons behind him and they would start hacking away at me. also that annoying attack he does when he screeches is hard to dodge if you cant see him |
Shemson
07.17.23 | Nito was cake, beat him first time only healed five times
The lead up to him was a hundred times harder and I died so much in the stupid dark areas
Also those little poison skeletons were adorable 🤣 |
zakalwe
07.17.23 | You manage to pick up the bigger bonker grant? |
Shemson
07.17.23 | Yes! Ran into that dude just outside Nito’s bit before the babies and pinwheels! He actually killed me first time… wasn’t expecting the mega bonk but I spammed some fireballs at him second time and took his stuff - is it any good? I’ve just been using claymore still
Also I met some fucking mad dragon thing who killed me before I even worked out how to hit it and then woke up in prison and had a bunch of weird snake fucks coming at me what the hell is that about?
*confession - I googled where to go next after Nito as I felt stuck :( |
Ryus
07.18.23 | im sick so i had time to beat the final boss :]
will do some NG+ stuff to find the things i missed at some point |
JohnnyoftheWell
07.18.23 | Get on that DLC!!! |
Ryus
07.18.23 | eventually
rn im ignoring all recommendations and playing sekiro |
PotsyTater
07.18.23 | Dude play the fuckinng ds1 dlc before moving on to sekiro at least wtf is wrong with u |
Ryus
07.18.23 | i dont rly feel like it tho |
PotsyTater
07.18.23 | It’s literally all the best content in the game and you have not completed dark souls until you’ve done it |
Shemson
07.18.23 | Congrats on the completion Ryus!
Did you need to look anything up or did you find that sneaky as shit route to the grand archives I had to google? |
PotsyTater
07.18.23 | He did not complete. |
Shemson
07.18.23 | Big Hat Logan told me how to kill that sparkly dragon bitch
After dying about seven eight times trying to get to him I killed him first time by chasing his tail |
Ryus
07.18.23 | thanks mate
there were some little things i had to look up but nothing too major. the grand archives were a major pain in the ass indeed |
PotsyTater
07.18.23 | You did not fucking beat the game stop it 😡 |
Shemson
07.18.23 | So glad I read the description on the transient curses earlier, just smashed my way through Londo ruins and wrecked the four kings first attempt
I’m level 84 so I’m sure I’m well over levelled but I’m loving this game, the atmosphere is great and the level design is the best I’ve ever played |
PotsyTater
07.18.23 | If you skip the dlc too I’m never talking to u ever again |
Shemson
07.18.23 | I think Ringed City might be the best area of a game I’ve ever played and the Sister Freide battle in Painted World is joint most happy/satisfied/relieved I’ve ever been to defeat a boss so hell yeah I’ll do the dlc |
Shemson
07.18.23 | I stumbled across the Very Large Ember on my trip so Andre just made me a lovely +15 claymore for my adventures next time |
PotsyTater
07.18.23 | The dlc is the best part of most fromsoft games tbh |
PotsyTater
07.18.23 | And also usually the hardest
And the best lore and story stuff
Only cowards don’t do fromsofr dlc |
Gyromania
07.19.23 | It’s literally all the best content in the game [2]
Skipping DS1 dlc is a fail |
PotsyTater
07.19.23 | Ya like actually the biggest L imaginable |
Shemson
07.22.23 | If anybody was feeling a bit annoyed that I beat O&S, 4 kings, Nito etc. first time then don’t worry I got well and truly humbled by Bed Of Chaos
That thing destroyed me over and over again 🤣 |
Shemson
07.22.23 | Also I heard that after you do the final battle you have to start NG if you want to keep exploring so I went to Oolacile
Loved the Artorias fight, much better mechanics and I liked the way he moved more like a DS3 boss |
parksungjoon
07.22.23 | You cheated not only the game, but yourself.
You didn't grow.
You didn't improve.
You took a shortcut and gained nothing.
You experienced a hollow victory. Nothing was risked and nothing was gained.
It's sad you don't know the difference. |
PotsyTater
07.22.23 | Shem W
Ryus L |
Shemson
07.23.23 | Who cheated with a shortcut park? |
Shemson
07.23.23 | The DLC was amazing you guys were totally right
Artorias fight was really good fun, he got me first time and I got him second
The dragon destroyed me repeatedly, took a good six or seven attempts
Then final battle was really cool and enjoyed the cave leading up to it. Got him first time but I took ten estus flasks and was tough! |
widowslaugh123
07.23.23 | On a slightly related note I just beat demon souls remake woo! Now I just need to beat dark souls 2 and sekiro |
Shemson
07.23.23 | Nice! I’m on Xbox so won’t get to play Demon Souls or Bloodborne (which I’m particularly annoyed about) - what was Demon Souls like?
I’ve done ER and DS3 all endings and just linked the fire in DS1 - I think I’m gonna try DS2 next!
I played Sekiro for about 20 hours but I sucked at it and never got good - will probably have another go after DS2 |
Ryus
07.23.23 | 25 hours into sekiro and enjoying it a lot, not as much as DS1 but its still amazing. combat is really cool, but the exploration isn't the focus and i think that's kinda hindering my enjoyment a little. very satisfying combat though |
PotsyTater
07.23.23 | L bozo
@shem its funny cuz that dragon is probably one of the easiest dark souls dragons all told hahaha. They are always such a fuckin bitch. |
widowslaugh123
07.23.23 | Aw damn Shem that sucks Bloodborne was my first souls game and it’s amazing. Demon souls was pretty great but definitely the easiest fromsoft game. Most of the bosses are pretty gimmicky and there is a lot less content than later games. But it’s still pretty fun and hard and the graphics are the best out of all the souls games |
Shemson
07.23.23 | Mate you’re probably right. That dragon in the Ringed City absolutely wrecked me to the point where getting this one in less than ten attempts should probably be considered a huge win
I struggled with those Astel creatures in ER too but I’m good at human type movements now
Got Gwyn second attempt as halfway through the first I realised he was the second phase of the end of DS3! |
Shemson
07.23.23 | Yeah I read quite a bit about BB and it sounds like I’d love it, stupid exclusivity
Doesn’t sound like I’m missing too much on DeS but would’ve liked to do it anyway |
PotsyTater
07.23.23 | Ya Gwyn is a pretty easy final boss especially once you’ve learned to exploit the stalagmites |
PotsyTater
07.23.23 | I’ve played the original demon souls and it was a lot of fun so I definitely need to play the remake eventually. I haven’t bought a ps5 yet cuz at this point i feel like I might as well wait for the inevitable ps5 slim |
PotsyTater
07.23.23 | Oh btw did you get artorias’s girlfriends armour set and weapons? Peak fasion souls |
PotsyTater
07.23.23 | Kinda wanna do a role play run as her |
Shemson
07.23.23 | Haha yeah I don’t know why but I’m quite possessive over my boss souls so when she asked for it was like ‘nah and I’ll take your shit too’
Googled it later and seems I made the right call getting her :) |
PotsyTater
07.23.23 | Oh yeah for sure fuck her up every time. I always make sure to do an npc murder spree before I go on to my next ng |
PotsyTater
07.23.23 | Fighting blind boy gough (?) is a lot of fun |
Shemson
07.24.23 | You monster, he was a good friendly giant!
The only regrets I had for a first playthrough was I found Solaire going crazy with a bug on his head and killed him which sucked and I never found my onion buddy again after I saw his daughter and said I’d seen him out in the world so I think I got those quests wrong somehow |
PotsyTater
07.24.23 | Yeah you gotta tell his daughter you saw him and then you gotta go back to the tree at the bottom of blight town. I don’t remember if there is another step in there. As for Solaire, where you found him with the bug on his face, the dead end at the end of that tunnel is not actually a dead end. If you give the spider lady enough of the items you have to give her she will eventually open up a door there. Before you go to that area you gotta get that door open and come from that side and kill the bug with red eyes before solaire can encounter it. Otherwise there is a way to spam kill the bug through the wall from the spider lady side by using acid or poison or something iirc. |
neekafat
07.24.23 | Woahhhhh an even cringier Johnny list |
parksungjoon
07.24.23 | wt rings u got bicth |
Shemson
07.24.23 | Damn they made it hard to save Solaire!
Just started ds2 for like 25 mins last night. The intro with live action amongst their usual graphics was fun and I like the crew of old fire keepers acting live witches in their old hut. Also, return of the crows very quickly
I did DS1 with Havels ring and mostly wolf ring for poise apart from when I swapped that out for water, abyss or lava rings |
zakalwe
07.24.23 | Onion is at

Shemson
07.24.23 | Yeah I never saw him at lost izalith, found his daughter in a golem though 🤣 |
