They May Suck But...

A bunch of albums that I have no reason to like, yet do so anyway out of nostalgia for the days gone by. Well, not all of them, but in any case, this is all music I once liked but no longer find quite as brilliant.
1Linkin Park
Hybrid Theory

I think everybody dug this at some point. No technical value but still fun to listen to. 'With You' is up
there with 'Bulls on Parade' and 'Freak on a Leash' in the annals of classic rap-metal.
2Breaking Benjamin
We Are Not Alone

I have all of BB's stuff, but this was the first one I listened to and also their best. 'So Cold' is a pretty
good song no matter how you look at it, and the rest has a nice grunge sort of feeling that Phobia's
murkiness managed to avoid.
3Green Day
American Idiot

One of my favorite albums ever, and the record that got me into rock music. This is probably the only
one on the list that doesn't actually suck. I mean, sure it's Green Day but it's just good. I only put this
here because some people think Green Day sucks (to a certain extent they did until this).
4Three Days Grace
One-X

Yeah, yeah. "PAIN! Without love! PAIN! Can't get enough!" Whatever, I still have a soft spot for this
record. I mean I don't love it and I almost never listen to it, but there are a few decent moments on
this.
5Disturbed
Ten Thousand Fists

The classic metal approach that almost went somewhere with Believe fell flat here for most of the
songs. 'Guarded,' 'Stricken,' the title track, 'Avarice,' 'Land of Confusion' and 'I'm Alive' are the only
songs I still really like. David Draiman is an asshole but this is still decent for mallcore lite.
6Godsmack
Godsmack

This is probably my least favorite on the list, but the Alice in Chains theft manages to hide under
vaguely industrial touches and some true metal attacks.
7Seether
Karma and Effect

As I've gotten older, this just sounds like Staind/Nickelback with Kurt Cobain resurrected to sing, but I
thought this was great back in the day. 'Simplest Mistake' is an underrated gem, as are 'Diseased' and
'I'm the One.' The metal is the only reason to listen to this; these guys don't know anything about
ballads or even midtempo stuff.
8Evanescence
Fallen

This should really only be 'Bring Me To Life," which is pretty catchy. I never got the album, but in my
12-year-old genius I thought I was experimental and open-minded for listening to a band with a chick
in it.
9Black Eyed Peas
Monkey Business

I have no excuse for this. Pure trash, radio hip-hop at its worst. As I say to my friend's Soulja Boy-
craving sister, "You don't even know what real music is, you just subscribe to a diet of what the fads tell
you is good."
10Nickelback
All the Right Reasons

I remember this one week where I was listening to both this and Toxicity by System of a Down on
iTunes, trying to decide which one I should buy. Luckily I got that one, keeping me from going down a
road of Kroegerian macho posturing and watery balladry.
11 I made this list too big by mistake
Any suggestions?
