I always knew jazz fusion had potential. Snarky Puppy reached that potential

Butkuiss 2012
List is self explanatory. I missed a lot this year though.
1
Top 10 Albums of 2012
In order
2
Between the Devil and the Deep
Paper Spine
Refused and Fugazi filtered through Modern Life Is War on Bondi Beach. One of the best Australian punk releases of all time; a post-hardcore tour de force by one of the scene's most revered bands. Not a single weak moment.
3
Swans
The Seer
Post-punk, post-rock, post-noise, post-Jarboe. Michael Gira does it again. The Apostate is magnificent.
4
Godspeed You! Black Emperor
'Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend!
One of the best comeback albums ever released, if a bit short. GY!BE are back.
5
Converge
All We Love We Leave Behind
This doesn't need any justification. Bannon, Koller, Newton and Ballou are masters of metal/hardcore fusion.
6
Aesop Rock
Skelethon
Arguably Aesop's best album in over a decade, and sporting some of the best production in modern hip-hop.
7
Deftones
Koi No Yokan
Not as immediate as Diamond Eyes but just as good.
8
Departures
Teenage Haze
Modern British hardcore's best up-and-coming band do it again.
9
The Elijah
I Loved I Hated I Destroyed I Created
City of Caterpillar meets Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Gospel meets Nightwish. Another great British release.
10
Dark Time Sunshine
ANX
Onry Ozzborn and Zavala just get better and better at hip-hop with each release.
11
Trioscapes
Separate Realities
I still can't tell if it's jazz fusion being played by tech metal musicians or tech metal being played by jazz fusion musicians.
12
Top EP of 2012
13
Burial
Kindred
Hauntingly beautiful.
14
Best Local Album of 2012
15
DZ Deathrays
Bloodstreams
The heirs to Death From Above 1979's kingdom.
16
Best Local EP of 2012
17
Occupants
The Aviator
Indie doom pop that's one part The Jezabels and one part The Cure.
18
Best Sputnik Music
19
Sudatsuga
Blue Moon Saiyeed
Graham Reich's alternative gypsy swag folk album is just brimming with mandolins.
20
Love American
Disquiet
Melodic Post-hardcore that follows somewhere between Defeater and Pianos Become the Teeth. Adam Thomas is a beast.
