evilford 01.17.13	great answer by the notrap lots of aspects go into it. thrash came first, and ultimately was the most significant force in creating death metal. BUT, since then, thrash stagnated and dm grew and evolved, and yeah I think since at least the mid 90s, both genres have been pretty stale. it's been a downward spiral of decreasing demand (people that want to hear it) and then supply (bands that play quality dm or thrash), but I think the demand these days is more there for dm than thrash. overall, more people want to hear it/see it evolve it seems. very close, I love both genres a lot. thrash ultimately is probably more important historically. but for what I love the most as a genre overall I have to pick DM cuz = 1. chuck, 2. death, and 3. immolation

ReturnToRock 04.23.13	Thrash metal is more important since it birthed death metal, but death metal has gone through the most changes and is the broader, more evolved scene presently. Thrash bands got stuck in 1986 for the most part.
