04.03.13 | Haven't heard a lot of blues, mainly rockier stuff (SRV, Gary Moore) but they rule hard. Need to delve into this. |

04.03.13 | Muddy Waters all the way. |

04.03.13 | Also I agree that 17 is underrated here but it's still the weakest thing the original Fleetwood Mac ever did imo. |

04.03.13 | great list, feature, sputnik needs more blues |

04.03.13 | I love blues, but I don't know shit about it.
Anyways, I don't think that Robert Johnsson album is that inaccessible for newcomers to the genre. It's a perfect late-night listen, and is pure basics: guitar and voice. |
manosg
04.03.13 | Thanks guys for your comments.
@Lloyd
6,11,18 and 19 would be great for you since you liked SRV and Gary Moore.
@Buttery
Yeah Muddy Waters is awesome. 14 is one of his best albums.
@JT
Thanks dude. One of the reasons for devising this list was to spread the blues message.
@TheBigLeb
Hehe, I hope you like some of these.
@Jethro42
Thanks. Some of these albums are classic. |
ReturnToRock
04.03.13 | Hey dude, where's Bessie Smith? Where's Eric Clapton? They should definitely be here.
NOTE: I realize Derek & The Dominoes is on the list, but solo Clapton should feature as well. |

Thanks man. Agree 100%.
@clercqie
Robert Johnson is a legend but to some it may seem too raw.
@RtR
I started this list with more items, so there are some that I have put aside for next time if this list has some success. EC will definitely be in my next list.
@Dominion
I def need to delve into Bukka White some more. |
deslad
04.03.13 | Great work with that list man, I especially like the thorough descriptions; I am certainly going to listen to some of those albums. It should definitely be featured!
Where do you propose to start since I am a blues newbie? |
manosg
04.03.13 | @deslad
Thanks a lot dude. I suggest you start with 6->10->18->19. When you listen to those feel free to ask me again. |
DominionMM1
04.03.13 | check out elmore james and freddie king if you haven't already |
JamieTwort
04.03.13 | Interesting choice of John Mayall album btw. I probably would have put A Hard Road, one of my favourite blues albums. Bluesbreakers with Clapton is great too of course. |

04.03.13 | nice list man. i dig the blues when im in the mood.. nice seeing some love on the Delta side. |
manosg
04.03.13 | @Dominion
Yeah, both are all-time greats. Actually, "Burglar" is one of my blues favorites.
@JT
Both your suggestions are great. Crusade is the album that got me into John Mayall. I thought that it can help others get into this great artist too. It also includes Mick Taylor, for The Rolling Stones fans.
@MetallicOpeth
Thanks dude, glad you diggin'. Johnny Winter is superb, needs more love in here.
@RtR
Great recs. "Moanin' in the Moonlight" is a classic.
@EyesWideShut
Thanks friend. Some of the best come from Mississippi. |

04.03.13 | @manosg
Thanks for the recommended albums. I am listening to number 6 right now, as you suggested, and it is absolutely awesome! |

04.03.13 | charlie patton rules too. and all the "blind" guys. |
manosg
04.03.13 | @deslad
Glad you're digging Layla. Consider yourself bluesed.
@Dominion
I haven't checked any of Patton's stuff even though I've read that he's one of the Delta pioneers. I need to change that. Yeah, the blind guys were great. Lemon and Willie Johnson are the ones I've heard. |
ffs
04.03.13 | i've been listening to a lot of blues lately i'll get on this sheit |
DominionMM1
04.03.13 | yeah patton and son house were o.g. |

04.03.13 | the only blues i really like are the old ass raw delta guys. thats the trve shit. then the white man stole and plagiarized em all and made it gay. |

JamieTwort
04.03.13 | "the only blues i really like are the old ass raw delta guys. thats the trve shit. then the white man stole and plagiarized em all and made it gay."
Couldn't disagree more. Some of the best guitarists of the last 50 years are white blues guitarists. I mean what about Peter Green? Even B.B. King himself has said that Green was the only guitarist who could give him "cold sweats". |
YankeeDudel
04.03.13 | i dont really care for much blues rock so i dont really care about peter green. hes a talented guy but i just dont get the same feeling i do from the trve niccas. |
YankeeDudel
04.03.13 | show me an english white guy who could get me as hard as howlin wolf. you cant do it. |
JamieTwort
04.03.13 | Well Green was actually more straight up blues in the early days than blues rock tbh. To each his own though, personally I think Green along with Gary Moore is one of the best guitarists of all time. |
manosg
04.03.13 | @ffs
Hope you find some stuff you like in here.
@Yankee
Granted he's not English but how do you feel about Dr. John? |
YankeeDudel
04.03.13 | Dr John is cool. His new album was actually pretty good too. Look Im not saying the they're bad. Just not on the same level as the OGs to me. Those dudes lived the blues and you could feel it in the music. It was raw as hell. I dont get that from alot of these other guys is all even if the music is more technical or whatever. |
manosg
04.03.13 | I see what you mean. Putting in context what the OGs did is pretty awesome. These guys had to surpass so many difficulties. The Brits on the other side helped a lot of people to get into this kind of music. These people will most probably end up checking the pioneers sooner or later which is great. Personally, I love both schools for different reasons. |

04.03.13 | needs a feature |
JamieTwort
04.03.13 | Most of my favourite guitarists are english white guys, and quite a few of them are blues players. Very few early blues players could hold a candle to Green, Moore and Rory Gallagher when it comes to conveying emotion through guitar playing. |
JamieTwort
04.03.13 | They made up for that in other departments though of course. |
YankeeDudel
04.03.13 | The OGs didnt even need to play their guitars. Just their voices brought the blues. The white boys dont have that man.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QA8-ZOuKetU
All Son House needs is to clap once in a while.
Again Im not saying Green, Moore, Gallagher arent good. I just dont get that BLUES vibe from them. They play the chords. They can jam. But i dont feel no blues. |
JamieTwort
04.03.13 | "The OGs didnt even need to play their guitars. Just their voices brought the blues. The white boys dont have that man."
Yeah I can't argue with this.
It just comes down to personal preference. I get more feeling from Green's guitar playing than I do from the music of the OGs. I still really enjoy and have a lot respect for those earlier players though and I'll admit that in many respects they were better than a lot of British blues artists. |
YankeeDudel
04.03.13 | No doubt. They're just different. Depends on your taste. All I know is the first time I heard Robert Johnson my heart melted. Those early guys man. So much soul. But I got love for the white boys too. |
bloc
04.04.13 | It's funny. I'm mostly a blues player but I hardly listen to the blues. |
Havey
04.04.13 | damn i was just about to start working on a list like this |
manosg
04.04.13 | @Eagles
Thanks, that would be great. It would help people learn more about the blues.
@bloc
How come?
@Havey
Do it dude. There's always space for some blues. |
JamieTwort
04.04.13 | I've requested a feature for this list in the meds thread. Hopefully someone will feature it.
I made a similar sort of blues list a few years ago but that never got featured either. Hopefully this one will. |

Your recommendations are great dude. Even though I'm not a fan of Burnside's latest stuff, his older work is amazing. Check this out if you like and tell me how it feels http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=meC4pmw5u84 |

04.04.13 | My fav Burnside album is the one with him leaning out of the cab window on the cover. It was the first I heard from him, and still the best for me! |

04.04.13 | Thanks, I will try the links you posted for both of those. I have never really been a fan of straight up blues, but I dig it when its mixed with something else. I feel the same way about jazz. |
