tempest-- 04.06.13	There's a new band that's just formed with Virgil Donati on drums and Derek Sherinian on keys that sound very much like DT, if anyone's interested. I forget their name but yeah, they sounded alright.

Keyblade 04.06.13	well first of all you have to be metal to be prog metal and tool are barely metal if i'm being generous. also they barely incorporate any elements of prog rock, jazz, blues etc to be called prog at all.
JaySpiral 04.06.13	They incorporate plenty of prog rock elements. Just because they don't have a normal sound of prog doesn't mean they aren't prog. And Tool is definitely metal, I don't know how you could say they're not metal.

JaySpiral 04.06.13	More complex song structures, lots of weird background noises, different time signatures, long drawn out parts, not necessarily riff-based, complex drumming.
JaySpiral 04.06.13	And although it doesn't make them prog, they have cited many classic prog rock bands as influences on them.
zachbuddie 05.28.15	I've recently become a huge fan of maudlin of the Well. A fantastic band to check out with the right mindset, although a bit tough to get into.
