Bunch of glam haters don't know how to have fun. :( As for Priest being glam they actually were with Turbo as it's the most glam thing they've released if not glam then plain pop-metal. |

If you listen to early 80's glam though (Motley's Too Fast For Love for example) you'd know that there was still plenty of edginess in the music. There is definitely a knife flashing, dangerous aspect to the stuff that came out within the first few years of the 80's. |
Itishappeningagain

lol I don't deny that at all, but at least Metallica provided SOMETHING of substantial worth before changing their sound (for the worse hard). these fucking glam rock bands capitalized on a simple formula from their inception, and that's why they suck shit. lol what is there to understand about glam, dudes dressing like women, writing shitty music and being the fastest fading niche in all of music ever yea!@!! |

05.09.13 | SUBSTANCE! that's what I was looking for. |
Itishappeningagain
05.09.13 | But Metallica's whole career is based on being "heavy" yet the only heavy album for it's time was Kill Em All and that's it. Since then they've been nothing but entry level thrash and thus sellouts as they refused to change their sound to something slightly different and that's why most songs on Master Of Puppets sound the bloody same. Face it, Metallica is as bad as all the Glam bands. |
omnipanzer
05.09.13 | heh, me too, Space Oddity (Demo) to be exact. ;-) |
omnipanzer
05.09.13 | "Kill Em All and that's it"
no, I cannot agree with that at all. |
Itishappeningagain
05.09.13 | @ Metallic That's not entirely true. Sure I agree bands like Mr Big and Winger did that. But before them was Motley Crue pioneering a new catchy sound and making a heavy metal album then destroying their legacy etc. Basically they had some big guns before hitting the shit. Same goes to W.A.S.P. and Skid Row who never had a bad album. (If anything Skid Row was more metal than ever in the future)save for maybe later alt rock like efforts that sucked. They still had the legacy however. |
SitarHero
05.09.13 | I used to love hair/glam metal, but the problem with them is how oversaturated the genre was and how substandard a lot of the music was. Everyone just sounded too damn alike.
But that doesn't mean you can't still love Van Halen and Def Lep. Everyone else was pretty much just copying them. |
Itishappeningagain
05.09.13 | Okay Omni add Ride The Lightning there even though it had a ballad on it (ironic aint it?). Plus let's not forget the fact that Metallica's most recognizable songs are ballads or the fucking Sandman which had the mainstream approach. And no, Master Of Puppets wasn't heavy or exciting for the time we had shit like Pleasure To Kill and Peace Sells by then which made Metallicas entry seem like wankery. |
SitarHero

@zakalwe face it there's cookiecutter music everywhere regardless of if you want it or not. If Bowie was such a great individual/music writer why does he have shit albums? Because he's not the god half of you claim he is. I also don't understand the concept of hating the music itself for the principle it was made. Viper you should listen to Shout At The Devil by Motley since that one's actually heavy metal but I personally think of it as entry level glam.
@zakalwe Yeah, I get what you mean. It's somewhat like me and modern music then. Sometimes it doesn't suck but god damn I don't want to listen to that all the time. |

omnipanzer
05.09.13 | As I said, how can you expect others to not bring up those that directly influenced the genre YOUR list is about? |
Itishappeningagain
05.09.13 | Yet the fact he is an inovator doesn't mean he's the god of everything that moves all of the sudden. I'm pretty sure many of us would hate the things people like Jimi Hendrix used to listen to but they were his influence so it's time to shut up and swallow that. I personally don't like him and only throw turds of fire to counter the ones being thrown at glam since it's only fair. To me other things from the 70s seem much better than Bowie. |

05.09.13 | @omni but buddy I'm not getting a sandy vagina over that. I'm getting one over plebs coming in and aimlessly bashing glam while it's actually a fun genre to some of us. |

05.09.13 | ^^ No it isn't... you are making a glam list and we are bringing up other glam artists not the other
genres that influenced glam. Your list is about glam... we are mentioning first wave glam artists.

Itishappeningagain
05.09.13 | @omni first of all it's just Bowie's name you keep shouting. Titan
05.09.13 | I love glam and know when I hear it dude. STTG is without question heavier and less glammy than their s/t, but it still has many traces and elements of what made glam rock popular.
|
JamieTwort
05.09.13 | There are some similarities to glam, particularly with regards to the ballads but they're generally a lot more serious. I can hear hints of their glam sound in A Darkened Room and Wasting Time but overall there is very little glam on that album. In fact the band were pretty open about the fact that they were distancing themselves completely from the glam movement. |
Itishappeningagain
05.09.13 | Blasphemer! It has traces but it's not full on glam it's more of a cross over to heavy metal. |
Titan
05.09.13 | @Jamie, outside of the ballads
The chorus of Monkey Business?
Chain Gang in it's entirety?
I know the band was distancing themselves from the glam movement, but easier said than done. I still hear a lot of the glam elements throughout the album. |
JamieTwort
05.09.13 | I've honestly never got a glam/hair metal vibe from any of the non-ballad tracks, they're far too aggressive and lyrically they hardly fall into the typical style synonymous with the glam scene. |
