It's one of the worst jobs you can have, it's not 'respected' at all, are you kidding me? Any person coming at that late doesn't need special treatment. they should cook at home or have eaten sooner than that, or go to a different restaurant that is open all the time. "because I'm supposed to care you gotta close? I'm spending money while you're making it" and are they supposed to care you're hungry? no. they care about getting payed, they don't have to care about what you think at all.

eleventhsun 07.16.13	Its not at all a lot to ask. Do you know how hard it is to get a job in this world? And I suppose they can quit if they don't want to serve food out of a restaurant. I mean what a concept that you have to serve hungry people food when you work at a restaurant. And god forbid a customer assumes you're open until 1 because you serve food until then. I have to work 16 hours a day on an internship, for NO pay, just to hopefully get a job, I haven't paid my rent nor eaten in 3 days. I'll take the hours from the hard done by del taco worker that has to work til 1am. Then again, I also figured out how to get my high-school diploma and go through 3 years of college and graduate with honours at 27 years old, coming from working at a fast food restaurant... So I have a bit more respect for how hard it is for some folks to acquire money in this world. I didn't realize doing your job was so much to ask. No wonder people label Americans as lazy.
