tommygun 10.22.13	they're two very different types of artists and i completely expect that you'd prefer elliott's music to frusciante's cos of your natural gravitation toward lyrics etc they're both very pure artists but in extremely different ways frusciante is very much about the process/experimentation/music side of things with insane instrumental ability and more abstract ideas, and has said lyrics as something he has fun with or 'plays games' with whereas elliott, while also a very technically proficient guitarist and arranger/composer, makes music that feels far more direct and personal and... not 100% autobiographical but a lot of what he does feels like a peek into his personal diary or something you should read eric's review of his s/t to see where i'm going with this
tommygun 10.22.13	i love them equally but it's impossible to compare the two like for like here's the specific section of that review i'm talking about (but read it all because it's fantastic) - Again, it’s hard for me to believe this is a record Elliott enjoyed writing, much less releasing to the public for their scornful ears to criticize it. He did though, I think he had to. His self-titled record, besides existing as the most skillful display of songwriting unleashed during the decade, is an evocative diary of Elliott’s pain and anguish, a tiny glimpse of light into his dark cavern of suffering that was his life while addicted to heroin and despising life.
