Instrumental, Neo-classical, Post-rock, Ambient, etc. list
Albums I've recently discovered (maybe old ones too). Many of them, thanks to this web. I'll be using it as a personal record. Ongoing list. No particular order (except for the first one). Welcome to recommendations. |
1 | | Kashiwa Daisuke Program Music I
I really can't express what went through my mind the first time I listened to this record. It was late at night. The first notes of Stella started. Half hour later, I was in complete awe. Smiling. I really couldn't believe what I was listening to. Such a perfect album. Such a perfect song. Such a fresh sound.
I think my understanding of the word "beautiful" changed after that night. It opened a curtain I didn't know was closed. After listening to this my music preferences and understanding changed completely.
This one stands, right now, as my favourite album of all time. (Behind, of course, some classical albums like Beethoven's 9th). |
2 | | Olafur Arnalds Eulogy for Evolution
Probably one of the best debut albums of XXI century. Ólafur Arnalds makes a name for himself in less than 40 minutes. |
3 | | Max Richter Recomposed: Vivaldi - The Four Seasons
A classic, remade for the XXI century. Keeping only 25% of the original, it sounds pretty much the same, but with a "rock spirit" transforming it. Beautiful and very energic album. Vivaldi for XVIII century hardcore fans. |
4 | | Wintergatan Wintergatan
When I first heard former Detektivbyran frontman Martin Molin would start a new band, I honestly couldn't wait to hear it.
Now, what I heard was definitely what I was expecting. But also, nothing like it. A much more "rockier" version of Detektivbyran, somewhat progressive, metal-y, whatever.
Best described as Swedish Experiprog Electropolkaclassical, from this page:

Gotta love that description. |
5 | | Ludovico Einaudi Divenire |
6 | | Kashiwa Daisuke April. #02
Despite its inconsistencies, April. #02 is one of my favourite Kashiwa Daisuke albums. The title song is a prelude to Stella, although, not as diverse as its predecessor in its composition. It's hard listening to the album as a whole, but the title track and Rabbit's_Quartet are definitely Kashiwa Daisuke classics. |
7 | | Yann Tiersen Le fabuleux destin d'Amelie Poulain |
8 | | Vali Skogslandskap |
9 | | Ludovico Einaudi In a Time Lapse |
10 | | Eluvium Copia |
11 | | Detektivbyran E18 Album
What can I say? Electrofolk from Sweden. Accordion. Theremin. Glockenspiel. Toy piano. Music box.
Inspired by Amelie soundtrack. |
12 | | Vali Forlatt
Folk taken from the deep forests of Norway. |
13 | | Olafur Arnalds ...And They Have Escaped The Weight Of Darkness |
14 | | Kashiwa Daisuke 88 |
15 | | Eluvium An Accidental Memory in the Case of Death |
16 | | Olafur Arnalds Living Room Songs |
17 | | Max Richter The Blue Notebooks |
18 | | Sebastian Plano Arrhythmical Part of Hearts |
19 | | Matryoshka Laideronnette |
20 | | Nils Frahm Spaces
What Nils Frahm is doing with his piano can't be described with words. |
21 | | Sebastian Plano Impetus |
22 | | Sigur Ros Agætis byrjun
Item description? This needs no description. |
23 | | Peter Broderick Float |
24 | | Yndi Halda Enjoy Eternal Bliss |
25 | | Hammock Raising Your Voice... Trying to Stop an Echo |
26 | | Balmorhea Balmorhea |
27 | | The Evpatoria Report Golevka |
28 | | Lis Er Stille Apathobvious |
29 | | Mutyumu Mutyumu
OK, let's mix Post-rock, Opera, and Metal.
Welcome to Mutyumu. |
30 | | Kashiwa Daisuke Re:
As faulty as it is, it is a remarkable album, nonethelesss. |
31 | | Nils Frahm Felt |
32 | | Floex Zorya
So many beautiful textures in this record. It's like a mix of jazz, electronica, with some classical elements and some beautiful few voices. Great mood.
Favorite tracks: Casanova, Nel Blu. |
33 | | Eluvium False Readings On
Eluvium delivers another truly solid album. |
34 | | Yndi Halda Under Summer |
35 | | Ibrahim Maalouf Kalthoum
So, this is jazz, but I thought it would be a nice addition to the list. |
36 | | Nujabes Metaphorical Music
Another jazz record??
Whoa. Spicing it up without even noticing. |
37 | | Max Richter Memoryhouse |
38 | | Max Richter Infra |
39 | | Kashiwa Daisuke Program Music III
I still need some time to digest this, but I'm liking it more and more |
