Video Game Nostalgia #4: The Timesplitters Franchise

If there's any franchise that deserved way more attention than it got, it would have to be Timesplitters. Developed by what used to be Free Radical Design, which was primarily comprised of ex-Rare employees, Timesplitters took the gameplay style of Goldeneye 007, sped it up, and made it more futuristic. The entire series is about time travel, with humanity trying to defeat the titular "Timesplitters." As the series progressed, the Vin Diesel-looking Sergeant Cortez became the main character and the plot became more humorous with each game. Speaking of "each game," it's sad as hell that only three of these games were released. There's currently a legit Facebook petition (I'll post a link in the comments) dedicated to having the current developer Crytek UK make the game. I hope enough people like the page and the petition grows, because it'd be amazing to see Timesplitters come to this new generation of gaming. This is one of those series that I liked a lot as a kid but like even more as I'm older. I understand the jokes better, I appreciate the gameplay more, and I especially appreciate how much time was spent on each title. You can tell that Free Radical were really dedicated to their craft, and each game's unique style, characters, and distinctive gameplay elements are a testament to that. Long live Timesplitters.
