Some Of My Favorite Albums (recs?)
Well, this list is pretty sporadic but if you think something will hit home, you rknow what to do. No real ranking of it, it was just as they came to mind. |
1 | | Electric President Electric President
This has been one of my favorite albums since I first heard it over a year ago. I
don't know what it is. The lyrics, the unique feel to it, the uncomfortable
atmospheres. Regardless, it's a hell of an album. |
2 | | The Hotelier Home, Like NoPlace Is There
I have practically watched this band grow up, and man have they flourished. One
of the most impressive albums of the year by far, really cohesive with more rock
than previous efforts. |
3 | | Fireworks Gospel
Though I may have just lost credibility to some elitists, the generic vocals are
worth working through on this band. They have some subtle things that really work
for them, pulling everything together for a familiar but still pretty original take on
pop punk. I haven't heard anything else by them, but songs like "teeth", "Life is
Killing Me" and "The Wild Bunch" show respectable instrumentation and a bit of
diversity. |
4 | | Front Porch Step Aware
This album just feels very personal and hits home with me. It's got the passion and
emotion of folk mixed with the passion and emotion of punk and emo. To me, it
comes out pretty damn epic. Some songs on here are really great. |
5 | | Good Luck Into Lake Griffy
Though this album isn't prefect throughout, it has some moments of awesome genre
bending and unique quirks. The male lead has a really interesting voice that makes
songs like "Bringing Them Back To Life" and "Hey Matt" feel genuine and unique. |
6 | | Nada Surf Let Go
When I first heard of Nada Surf, I remember thinking they were pretty decent but
didn't particularly stick out. Then I got this album, and my opinion changed. They can
really write a song and made a pretty diverse selection that all fall into the same
sound of the album. It's a pretty cohesive and solid album in general. |
7 | | The Wonder Years The Greatest Generation
Some pretty great lyrics similar to but way better than contemporaries in the genre.
Really talented and energetic pop punk band with high vocals that will either appeal or
repel. Great album regardless though. |
8 | | Radiohead Kid A
One of my favorite albums of all time. Expert control of emotion and use of
uncommon atmospheres of paranoia. An album that paved its own genre from a band
that (debatably) has not produced anything as great since. Thom Yorke's voice is as
impressive and somber as is expected, and every song except maybe one truly
shines through as an impressive work. Their magnum opus IMO. |
9 | | Tripwires Spacehopper
This is one of the most impressive debuts I've heard, but then again some of my
favorites are debuts. Interesting and unique instrumentation among Radiohead
esque slow-tempo music. "Wisdom Teeth" is epic, but then again so are most songs
in this promising first album. |
10 | | Mewithoutyou Brother, Sister
The first album I ever listened to where the guy was almost talking. The dynamics,
instruments, lyrics, and sheer passion floored me. I don't spin this album as much as
I used to but the impression it made is still there. This was a definite magnum opus
of theirs. |
